Would "licking" Toothpaste work?

I got the CET toothpaste for my cats.

Monet enjoys the flavor, and he proved it by stealing the tube and chewing a hole through it. tsk.

Would him licking it from my finger work well enough for dental cleaning, or do I have to at least rub it on his teeth?

It would be more effective if you rubbed it on his teeth and gums.
It's great that he enjoys the flavor! That will make it easier for you!

From what I've read in other posts here about it, CET is an enzyme toothpaste so it should do SOMETHING if it's just in his mouth. Obviously it'd be ideal to brush or rub his teeth and gums, but I guess it works at least a bit even if he just licks it. That's usually what I do with Genever, she loves the poultry flavor and happily licks it off my finger, but isn't too keen on me sticking my finger or the brush in her mouth. I try sometimes, but hey, I take what I can get.

No problem!
Simba doesn't like having things in his mouth either but a tiny cat tooth brush is tolerable for him rather than the over-the-finger thimble type cat tooth brush. This way I make sure I get the gums.
Small steps! Good luck!
