With all that had gone on with Nub-e I never mentioned another situation I was dealing with.

Living out in the country someone "dumped" a couple of cats on our property a good month ago. The female appeared 1st followed by her brother(?) a couple of days later. Both young close to a year old?

Super friendly, a bit hungry, and of course not spayed/neutered.
I found a rescue group to take her as of course she is pregnant. She is doing really well in foster care. They had no room however for her brother in fact no area rescues (though I might have located another possibility).

So he lives in the garage/outside. The other cats are okay with him.
I tried a cutesy ad on craigslist written from the cat's perspective-no interest.
Friends/family a no go either.
If I take to one of the local shelters-will he get adopted or PTS?

Once a month there is a service that I could get him neutered/vaccines/flea treatment for $55. FeLV is $20 more. he will have to have this done.
I don't know if this would increase my chances of finding him a home. I doubt it with all the rescues being full and so many ads on craigslist.

I just hate the people who didn't want to deal with them anymore and left them to fend for themselves.

Fighting for ferals in NW NJ!
I'd get him neutered, vaccinated, and get the flea treatment. If you can afford the Felv/FIV test, I'd find out - even though he's living outside and still at risk, at least you'd know now if he's already infected.

No matter what happens, you don't want him fathering kittens or at increased risk for all kinds of problems/infections/bites/wounds from all those raging hormones... not to mention if he's spraying it can't be all that pleasant.

We've got a pretty steady six feral cats outside. One is a stray, one feral that was a kitten last year has become friendly, and two more are learning from those two, and are starting to not be as scared LOL. We've got a poster up for Baloo... and we're going to have to get one up for Little Dot. Not even a call in a couple of months. Normally the foster network we work with takes the friendlies when room opens up after kitten season - but something happened with Petsmart (not sure what) - but it messed up adoptions, and they're still overflowing with foster kitties.

But at this point we have 8 indoor cats, 2 pet cats outdoors, and 4 regular ferals (and 4 ferals that come and go). Thank GOD this year we haven't had any dumped (that we've seen) and NO KITTENS. We got them TNRd in time.

I agree with LDG. If nothing else, get him fixed/vacc'ed/tested & keep him outdoors for now. Then he's at least not adding to the overpopulation problem. Keep trying to find him a home. Perhaps see if any local shelters will list him as a 'courtesy posting' on Petfinder? Get flyers up at pet stores, vet clinics, etc - advertise wherever you can.

I agree with the others get him fixed soon and tested for Felv.Flea treatment also if you could. Then if he checks out ok health wise maybe you can find him a home. Or just maybe he can stay with you?

I would get all that stuff done. Its just a shame that the rescue couldn't take both of them. He gets shut in the garage at night and during the day though its been so hot I can't keep the door shut so its open a crack.
The neuter -a -thon takes reservations and when the van is full to transfer cats to vet clinic 2 hours away one has to wait for the following month. I better make that appt.

So I have made an appt with a pet service that transports male cats & dogs for neutering later this month. Its $45 for the neuter & flea treatment for outside/stray cats. $6 for worming. But I'm not sure if he has ear mites too as I don't know the flea treatment used. I think I will email and see if I can get more info. To use this service you have to pay in advance then they provide the drop location. A local rescue uses them and they are pleased with the service provided.

Super news!! You mean they come to your place or a location close to you to pick up and drop off the cat
That is really a great service, if so.....
. Much luck with all of this, Gail

They have a fairly local drop off-I do not have that location yet. They want to make sure it isn't passed on to people who haven't paid for the services provided. They keep overnight? drop off is between 6 and 8 pm unless they drive right away? and transport to a vet clinic about 2 hrs away. You pick up 24 hrs later. They have all needed ppwk and contact info.

I forgot to mention this includes a rabies and distemper vaccine in the neuter price.
