plastic surgery?

My cat had been missing from home for about 4 months now. 2 days ago i found him not far from where i live. He is skin and bones, his fur is burned, he can barely stand on his own and his jaw has been completely ripped off. Only thing he can eat now is milk. I have no idea what happened to him. I have him and raised him since he was a few weeks old and i love him very much. It pains me to see him like this now. Is there any chance his jaw can be reconstructed by a plastician? And if so does anyone have any ideea where i can find one? please help me (

OMG how terrible....I have no idea what a vet will do but for him to survive this after so long...he deserves a chance.. If he can drink milk what about very watered down canned food ?Pls keep us update...some healing vibes for your kitty

I think reconstruction is the least of your worries right now. I'd work on getting him healthy again and then worry about the reconstruction, if it's even an option. I have seen animals without a lower jaw survive plenty before. They learn to adapt and you may have to provide special food but it certainly can happen.

Are there no emergency clinics in your area?

Poor kitty. I hope he recovers quickly.

Two days ago was Friday. Your vet doesn't have office hours Friday or Saturday - or for an emergency? Is there no emergency vet where you live? Have you left a message for your vet? Any vet? No one leaves a pager number or has an answering service to alert them to emergencies?

Regular jaw surgery can fix a jaw broken by trauma. No need for a plastic surgeon. Please get the poor kitty to a vet ASAP, at least for painkillers. Poor guy must be suffering terribly.

Your poor cat must be in so much pain, is there no other vets you can call about your cat?

Love and good vibes for your cat.

took him to the vet. but he wasn't much help.. all he said was that he's not in pain anymore and all i can do now is just nurture him back to health. use a blender for his food since he can't chew. i'm not even considering putting him to sleep since he struggled that long to survive and found his way back home. anyway he seems a lot happier now he's back home..

Wait, what?? What kind of vet did you take him to? I've seen a lot of vets, and from the OP, there isn't a single one that would say anything like that. No x-rays? How did he know he's not in pain? And you waited until Tuesday to take him in to the vet? I'm sorry, this story doesn't sound for real. If you truly cared about this cat, you'd get him to another vet ASAP. If you can't afford treatment, call a rescue, do SOMETHING.

Um, the OP is in Romania. I'm betting the health care situation for pets there isn't quite the same as it is here. . .

It's too bad the vet couldn't give him something for the pain. I can't possibly think that it's healed enough so soon to not be painful. I hope he does well and recovers nicely.

Romania is by no means a third world country. A quick google of vet care in Romania shows that while they are poor, they are not in the stone ages of vet care.

But some of these countries do not have the same quality of care for cats as we have here in North America or even England and some other European countries.

It's important to note where the OP lives and take into consideration that quality vet care may not always be available where they live and that often they have to deal with many issues on their own. That is why it is important that we, here at TCS, help them as much as possible and not push them away.

Can you tell us exactly what the vet did for him? What tests, x-rays etc. were done? I agree that nurturing him back to health is the priority but the vet could not give you any idea of the extent of the injuries?

Are you able to get a second opinion?

I feel so badly for the little guy. He must have suffered terribly.

Just FYI, the original poster did not have his/her location up at first. I don't know when it went up, but that information wasn't available until later.

To the OP, I hope the kitty isn't in pain. I do remember reading about a cat that had to have most of the lower jaw removed, and kitty did just fine eating only wet food.

Many vibes for you and your baby.
