It's not like this is a totally new thing. When I was 4 years old (this would have been about 1956) we lived in an upstairs apartment. The young couple downstairs were arguing all the time, loudly. After we moved out, the husband came home with a gun and killed his wife. Then the cold-blooded b*****d went to the bathroom mirror, pulled forward the skin on his neck, and shot through it. It looked like a horrible wound, but it just just through the skin. He tried to plead insanity, etc. The defense attorney called my mother to try to get her to testify for him, but she told him if she testified for anyone, it would be the wife, who deserved justice.

They escorted the man out of the house and in the car and some of the police left. Others walked around the inside of the house for hours. My neighbor, who can see down there better than we can, thought they were there for about 4 hours or so, walking around both inside and outside of the house.

We never found out what exactly happened, but it was an ugly situation.

I think the only time I ever encountered anything was when I was about 12 or so. Me and my friends used to always play underneath a bridge that was close to my house, we were on one side (underneath it) and there was a ma on the other side cleaning something in the water. We couldn't see what it was since he was so far away but then all of a sudden the cops came, sirens and lights blaring and cuffed the guy.

He had just stabbed his girlfriend and was washing the blood off his knife, thankfully he didn't kill her...

It was kind of exciting at the time We got asked lots of questions from the police, I don't think Mom believed me when I got home what happened until the cops showed up later.

Well, I may have mentioned it at the time, but the house 2 doors down was invaded a few years ago. A kid with a shot gun got under the garage door, which was open a little ways, then came in through the inside door. The family was eating dinner. He threatened them, demanding $600 and the keys to the Excursion in the garage. When the homeowner walked past him toward the bedroom (ostensibly to get the money), he (a former Marine) notice the kid didn't keep him covered with the shotgun. So, he turned around and grabbed the gun, and his wife jumped on the kid's back and got him around the neck. The kid wouldn't let go of the gun, even after the homeowner hit him in the face a couple of times, so the homeowner got the gun turned and shot the kid in the belly.

Lots of excitement around here, that night.

In addition, I think the our next-door neighbors had a big fight and the wife shot the husband, but I never could find anythng about it. But, again, they were separated and were arguing all the time when he came around.

Actually, it's a pretty quiet neighborhood, with mostly owner-occupied homes. But Dallas is just a block away, and that area is mostly rentals. And even Cedar Hill is heavily minority, although some very wealthy minorities live in the area, such as Dallas Cowboys, etc.

And the town goes from pretty heavily built-up to absolute raw land. Odd little town.

How scary! I would have ran back into the house, locked the doors and called 911!

I don't know if I've ever heard gunshots and I live in the capital of Canada. There is not a whole lot of violent crime here, more petty crimes.

In October we are moving to the 'wisteria lane' esque part of Ottawa so I can't wait. Hopefully no more car break-ins

When I first moved to London it was to a very bad neighbourhood right near the college. I didn't really have a choice of living anywhere else - I needed to be close to school and all the neighbourhoods that are that close are pretty bad. Ours was a dead end street, I lived in two houses on that street - right at the end, across from each other. There were always people that would park at the end and have sex in their cars, at least once a week there were cops down there, and about once a month the forensic unit would be down there too. The first week that I lived there someone got shot a block away at a bar.

Where I live now is much better, but it's still the ghetto end of the nice area, lol. We're very close to downtown (5 min drive, 15 min walk) so I think that has something to do with it. There are also a lot of apartment buildings on the block that I live in, they have very cheap rent and a lot of not so great people. They're trying to make it nicer by raising the rent, which is nice if you can afford it, lol.

We had a band from Texas staying with us last year. We were all hanging out in our living room when we hear a loud noise, the singer said that it was a gunshot. We didn't believe him, lol, the next morning the newspaper said there had been a drive by up the street from us (in the nicer part actually). Now we have a saying here, "If a Texan says it's a gunshot, it's a gunshot!"

I live about a block and a half from a very gang infested apartment complex so I'm used to this kind of event. I just love it when the fire fights go past my house at midnight...always fun. I also suspect there are a lot of meth labs around here because at least once a week the fire engines get dispatched around the neighborhood.

Glad your okay though and that no one was hurt.

I have never heard gunshots, thankfully. I live in the 10th most dangerous city in Canada and I hear about a lot of crime, but have never seen anything.

I am pretty sure my neighbour is a drug dealer. We are moving in October or November and can't wait to get away from here.

Ah yes, forgot about the meth labs. They've busted 4 in town in less than a month. Wonderful.

All the criminals are being pushed out this way while they "revamp" the ghetto part of the city of Charleston (N. Charleston).
