Hi everyone. I'm RAFM. Not new to message boards, just new to this one. I've been looking for a cat forum so I'm hoping this is the right place.
DH and I have 6 cats....never thought we would have so many but fostering left us with one and then a hard-luck case that came in via email that we couldn't resist brought our numbers up. We don't regret either of them.
We live in Texas and I work in distribution, DH in banking. Our pets take up the majority of our time and money these days, but we love them and don't mind the sacrifice.
Now to the important stuff....our kittehs, in order of adoption:
Riley: 13 year old orange tabby. My sister found him as a stray kitten on the steps of her school. He's a bugger, that's for sure. He's very trying and difficult on a good day. He's certainly the most demanding cat I've ever known.
Fred: 10 year old buff tabby. He fluffy and gushy fat. He's super loving and will purr for no reason. Sometimes I'll wake up during the night and Fred will be on the bed purring, without anyone even petting him. Fred was also a rescue from my sister. One of her students told her the animal police were coming to their home that afternoon to take the animals so my sister rushed over and was able to grab one of the animals before animal control got there....so Fred came to me.
Cleo: 13 year old rag doll mix. We adopted Cleo when she was 6 years old from a no-kill rescue group. She has always been an odd girl but she is 90% my DH's cat. She adores him and because he works from home, spends every minute of her day with him. They are very attached. She is sick right now and we seem to be losing her though. We are fighting but we can't figure out what we are fighting so it's not easy.
Simon: 6 year old gray. Oh, he's a mess. We got him from the same rescue as Cleo. He was born in rescue and lived all of his kittenhood in a loving home. He is certainly the most confident kitty we have. He is also a bully. He has significant behavior problems that we've not been able to fix. Loving and sweet to us, mean as a snake to some of the other cats. We manage though, he's just misunderstood.
Claire: 3-4 year old smoke torte. Claire was part of a feral litter we fostered. He 2 siblings came around to people, however, Claire is just not a 'people' cat. Since we brought her home she has not laid eyes on another human....outside her vet visit for spay and shots. After 3 years, she will sit in the same room with us, let us pet her once a day, and sleep on the bed with us at night....sometimes. She is a sweet, precious girl.
Bogey: 20.5 year old long haired gray. We took Bogey in when he was 18. His family was "tired of taking care of him" and was going to take him to a kill shelter. DH and I figured he deserved better so we took him in. He's been an expensive kitty, geriatric care is never cheap. But he is so sweet and loving, we are grateful everyday that we took him in.
All these kittehs share their home with 2 dogs....a 10.5 year old lab/hound mix with arthritis and a 1.5 year old min pin/beagle mix.
So, you can see why I say it's expensive and time consuming.
Looking forward to checking everything out.
