Just a quick question. I recently found an orphan kitten. The vet seems to think she is about 31/2 weeks old. I have been feeding her KMR since I found her Sunday. She is thriving nicely, and recently learned to use the litter box.
My question is....she sleeps a lot. She will cry to get up (out of the carrier/bed I made) and then drinks quite a bit. Sometimes she will want to jump and play and chew my face, other times she will fall asleep in mid-suck.
How much do kittens reall sleep a day. My two older cats sleep a lot, but I want to make sure I am doing right by this little girl.
Thanks!!
Diane

Kittens sleep a LOT, and sometimes seem to be attacked by sleep without warning. Sounds like yours is pretty normal.

Thank You! I am so worried about this lil girl. Yea-she was sitting upright the other day leaning on my hand and just fell over. We laughed so hard at her.

There's a video online somewhere of a little kitten just sitting there, then all of a sudden, thud! falls over asleep. It's adorable. I'd link to it if I could find it right now.

Have you started her on solids yet? When they start using the litterbox it's time. You can start by offering canned kitten food mixed with the KMR, and slowly reduce how much KMR you're using until she's only eating canned food by the time she's 8 weeks old. Then you can start offering dry food if you want.

HAHA...I will have to look for that. She does that all the time-whether chewing on my fingers or drinking, her lil eyes will close and off she goes.

No, I haven't really started her on food yet, she is still drinking her KMR, but since she chews the ends off every nipple, I think it might be time. LOL

The one thing I am concerned with is her belly is somewhat distended and she cries when she tries to poop which is sort of runny. The vet wormed her the first round, and gave her some meds today to help her belly, so I'm just trying to keep status quo while getting her better and growing. I feel like I am caring for a newborn.

If I have to nurse the 3 kittens under my deck how often do I have to feed them. They are about 3 weeks old also. Also at 3 weeks do they need to be stimulated to tinkle, etc?
