Question of the Day, Friday, July 29

Good morning!

I was straightening up the kitchen this morning before going in to take my shower for work. I put a new tablecloth on the table and was wondering....

What do you keep on your kitchen/dining room table? A tablecloth? Flowers? The mail?

We keep a tablecloth on our kitchen table all the time and I change it from week to week. Mollipop's little pink blankie is also on the table. But that's it. As much as I would love to keep a vase of fresh flowers or something pretty on the table, the cats would never allow such a thing.

I have one folding table which I set upright only when I need it (like preparing the ingredients for cooking). Then there is the "cat" table. This one is where my gang sits or eats or watch me cook. So yes, cats are on the kitchen table.

Nothing....

It's too easy for little ones to gran a corner and everything goes flying

My house is an open floor plan and since we have a large eat in kitchen, and a huge counter with stool for the bazillion kids that run in and out all the time. I don't have a dining room, the area is included in my living room.

Random clutter?

a fruit bowl with miscellaneous junk (once upon a time it was used for fruits) and a glass of water for Jake (he loves to drink out of a glass). The table serves as a bed for Jake in the summer, because I think he enjoys the wood's coolness against his body as opposed to his usual fluffy bed.

A bowl with fruit in it. I would love to keep flowers, but the cats eat them and knock the vase over. I can't do a tablecloth because the cats take that as an invitation to sleep on the table and it gets covered in cat hair and/or pulled off the table!

I have a "decorative" thingy on it. It is like a rectangular glass dish on a metal stand with rocks, two votive candles in glass, a vase, and it has teak wood with oil you can put in there. I've never put the oil in, and the cats have been using the wood sticks as toys So now those are put away too and just the rest is on the table.

Neko can also be found on the dining room table We only use it when we have a holiday dinner or party.

We don't have a table! Our couch has a fold down middle part with cup holders. That's where we eat.

this is what's on mine:

I don't think you'd believe what's on my table There's a box that Jack sleeps in, assorted yard sale items that I just can't decide whether to keep or re-sell, a stack of vintage wooden boxes that have no place to go, a chocolate cake, yards and yards of fabric, craft patterns, magazines, notebooks---we obviously have a big table.

I have a living room table if that counts but its kinda just there and will be used in some house at some point. I used it more in my apartment then this house cause the set up is to tight here

I am a minimalist so there is nothing but cats on it. I cant do bowl of fruit anywhere I end up with chewed(NOT EATEN!) fruit. Jealous of that one.

We eat in bed for the most part. Its safer as only a few cats are allowed in there.

Table cloth?? Surely you jest!! In my house, table cloth = new cat toy and the tablecloth and whatever is sitting on it ends up on the floor within 2 hours. The dinning room table is really only used when we have guests though (they get put in the bedroom BEFORE the tablecloth goes on for guests) so it's not a big deal. Right now, there are 2 computer towers DH is working on, multiple books that need to go back to the library, and...yep...two cats taking up space on it. So much for a Martha Stewart house.

Oh, dear.

Let's see. My table. I'm in a studio apartment - sort of big studio, by NYC standards, but the kitchen is not an eat-in kitchen. My table is very nice - hand crafted by a friend's dad, and it has two leaves, if I want them, but I keep it round all the time. I have it in a "dining area" of my apartment. Unfortunately, it's so full of stuff, not even Larry can get on it. I drop the mail and anything else on it after I come in the door.

It's there as a catchall, and I get motivated every once in awhile to clean it off, and then I put a tablecloth on it and a bowl of fruit. But this usually happens when I have guests for dinner - and people have to actually eat on it!

We rarely use our kitchen table to eat at, except for holidays or whatever when we have people over. And then I clean and sanitize well because long ago I gave up on trying to keep Genever off of it. And I don't want to eat where there's been litterbox feet walking around. That said, neither she nor Dorothy bother flowers, so sometimes I'll cut some roses or whatever else is blooming out back, and put them in a vase on the table. Other than that there are 4 placemats, Guinness salt and pepper shakers, and usually mail we haven't gone through yet and coupons I haven't put in my car yet.

I don't have a dining table. I eat at the coffee table (growing up in Japan, it comes naturally! ). Right now there is, on the coffee table, a Star Trek DVD box set, a newspaper (that the cats miraculously haven't shredded yet), and the remote control. And a cat, of course. There's always at least one on there.

We usually have the three placemats that we eat at, napkins, a couple bags of chips, and my vacuum sealer. lol

I keep nothing on the table, because it would be knocked off and destroyed

I have alovely solid pine kitchen table, with 4 cream chairs and 2 pine chairs.I have a tablecloth on it,kind of farmhouse style, placemats (cats of course) and then in the centre I have a Denby pottery jug which was dh's nanas and it has some lovely false flowers in which were also his nanas, she used to use that jug all the time so I though it was fitting and it looks lovely.I am going through a shabby chic phase at the minute x

Mine is pretty simple. It has 4 place-mats with napkins/napkin holders on each, a decorative candle piece in the center (gift from my family a few yrs ago), and two cream candles on each side of it.

(Not a great pic, but this is the general idea; this is one I took in my old apartment. I've since moved into a house and changed the decorations around it up a bit (the metal art piece behind the table is now actually on the wall lol); I'll have to post new pictures sometime!)
