Moe is a tub <-----there his secret is out
I worry because he has HCM and the extra weight is a NONO!!!

This boy will literally scream to be fed and will gobble it up like there will be no more meals ever. He will be 2 in February and takes Atenelol 2x a day to keep his blood pressure down so his heart does not have to work so hard. I worry that his love of food will buy him more trouble as he gets older. His next heart scan is in December and I live in fear of changes that are not so great. Right now his cardiologist is thrilled with the echos and he is stable,

He eats about 99% wet and will occassionally nibble on some dry, not much.
He gets about 5.5 ozs a day plus what he steals from his brother and Gnocchi.

Is that enough food for a 10lb cat?

5.5 oz plus some kibble and pilfered food is plenty, if not too much. Remember that foods vary wildly in calorie content. Some are very high and some are very low.

So the quantity of food he is getting may be too much, if he is gaining weight, if you are feeding a high calorie food. (Wellness grain free chicken, for instance is very high in calories where as Soulistic is not)

Since he is stealing, I'd cut back on his allotment a little. Just a half ounce maybe, to start, to see if that halts the weight gain.

My Jennie is one of those always hungry cats, but she gains weight easily. She is chubby at 10 pounds and only gets 4.5 oz of canned a day. I vary her diet so some days that is more calories than other days, but she stays chubby. She also will steal from the other cats, given the chance.

I slowed my cat's eating down by switching his dry to Nutro Max indoor. The kibble is larger and he has to chew it. As for wet, I mix a little water with the pate. That way they don't get so much and it lasts longer. I use Nutro Natural Choice Complete Care Indoor. A lot of people on this site don't like Nutro, but I have seen a big positive difference in his coat, less shedding and better liter box.

It would depend on what you switched from. If you were feeding a junky grocery store food, and up graded to Nutro, you certainly will see improvement after a couple of months.
