Poor shin

When I vacationed in Maine earlier in the month (wow, it's already been 10 days since we came back!), I ended up smacking my shin extremely hard on a metal ladder on a floating dock.

We were playing "king/queen of the dock", throwing people off, forming alliances, etc. Too much weight ended up on it (about four guys at 200+lb each, two kids who probably weighed almost 275lb combined, and then me and my husband's cousin - about 250lb combined) and it stood straight in the air! Everyone fell off but me and Rob's cousin ... because the ladder broke our falls. It caught her foot, which instantly bruised and swelled up, and my shin from my ankle to my knee. We joked we were queens of the dock and that it was almost worth the pain
We laughed so we didn't cry!

Well, it's been over 2 weeks now, and my shin still hurts to touch, starts to hurt while walking on it too much, and still is bruised up near my knee. Rob keeps telling me to go to the doctor, but I don't have any time off work and I HATE going to the doctor. I imagine if I broke it, I wouldn't have been walking on it later that night (very carefully walking on it!) But I'm beginning to think I may have fractured something somewhere, even just the tiniest bit.

Any opinions?

You could've bruised the bone, and that takes WEEKS to heal. I fell on concrete steps at a pool, landed straight down on my tail bone.. and my rear still hurts... been 3 weeks since!

Shins take forever to heal from a bruising. I run and on occasion I get shin splints. I can barely walk home (Of course it always happens when I'm 3 miles from home
) I'm usually not able to run for several days, and that's not an actual trauma.

I hope you feel better soon! You may want to go to a doctor though, considering you're having some trouble walking.

OUCH, hun, I am sorry! That is such a painful area to bang like that. You probably bruised the bone pretty badly. It really could take two to three weeks to recover.

It sounds like you smacked your leg pretty hard. You bruised tissue deep down and possiby even fractured the bone.

You really need to get to a doctor to have it looked at. An xray needs to be done to check for fractures, as well as an ultra sound to rule out a blood clot.

I'm not saying you do have a blood clot, but it's not uncommon for a severe injury to result in one occuring.

Take some time off to go to the doctor. You need to take care of your health first.

I was giving it three weeks until I was going to break down and go to the doctor. I spend more time sitting there twiddling thumbs than anything, but I remembered a little bit ago there's an after hours place run by the same group of practices I could probably go to that's better than "Doctors Care" (I could diagnose something better than that place around here!).

I was figuring that I bruised something up pretty well. My uncle bruised a bone in his arm one time and he said it was pretty painful (and for him to say that meant it really was!)

I did go to gymnastics class last Thursday and it wasn't too bad, except when I did a back handspring with a spot and landed on my knees instead of my feet (didn't jump very well!
)- had a twinge of pain then too.

I guess I do live pretty excitingly but dangerously at times
It was all fun and games.....

I was thinking of the aerial silks, too. That looks both fun and dangerous.

Aerial silks 17ft in the air can definitely be dangerous, but is SO much fun, especially drops! And pole, aerial hoop, drag racing ....

Today I stumbled a bit on a piece of metal on the ground when I stopped by Rob's shop to do an errand for him. It didn't hurt my foot or ankle, but did bother my shin for awhile, which didn't seem normal. So, I guess I'm going to have to suck it up and go to that after hours office before the week is over.
