My cat has had diabetes for two months now and I am giving him two shots a day. Now he is howling a lot and I have picked him up a couple of times, put him down and it was hard for him to walk. Does anyone have any idea what is going on? Is this temporary? He is 16, kind of heavy, but has been real good otherwise, but I think my Vet is wrong. Anyone have any ideas, I am going to the Vet tomorrow, but I am gonna hear the diabetes story, but I think there is more to the story.

I would probably go to a different vet for a second opinion at least.

That is a good idea. Vet's seem to want money using your pet as a tool or something. All I am trying to do is help my cat and I am not getting results.

Maybe two shots of insulin is too mcuh for him, maybe his suger levels are low and that is why he can't walk. But you never know, it is better to take him to the vet. I hope he gets better, lost of

The vet told me to roll the bottle real slow because the insulin needs to mix, but don't shake it, the insulin is Lantus which is suppose to be for humans and is very expensive. I am thinking, or if someone can answer me, please, if the insulin would do this to my cat. Does anyone have experience with insulin, or the name Lantus insulin. Thank you.

I have no experience with diabetes in cats. But my dad has diabetes, and he gets very unsteady and shaky when his blood sugar levels are low. The first thing that occurred to me when I read your post is that maybe it's too much insulin. High blood sugar isn't as dangerous (short term) as low blood sugar, so I'd try feeding him something until you can get to a vet.

I'm sorry to hear about your kitty. My kitty gets insulin. She doesn't react that way. Something is definitely going on. I'm glad you are taking him in. At that age other things could be going on

Can you check his sugar-its real simple if a walmart is nearby get a relion meter kit its about 9!

If his sugar is to high you could be seeing this. My diabetic cat was on prozinc and I got him off all insulin within a month or so. I used those test strips many many times a day and even tho they are cheap they work GOOD compared to the meter the vets use(alpha track, I had bought one and did side by side test)

Also if you can get ketone test strips and check his urine to see if ketones are in it(means his sugar was not controlled right ifr there are ketones in it and he will need IV fluids.
