Gunky Eyes

I have never seen a cat that gets dirty eyes as much as Ollie does.

Every morning I have to clean the "sleep" out of the corner of his eyes and then he is good for the day, my other cats get a little every now and then but nothing like this crazy boy and he ABSOLUTELY hates me cleaning his eyes.

I know with dogs crappy foods can make their eyes gunky, but I feed the cats Chicken Soup for the Cat Lover's Soul so it's not like I'm feeding them garbage...

Dirty eyes drive me crazy!

Example, and don't mind his glowing eyes

In that photo I really do NOT see the gunky eyes you speak of . But there are many causes for gunky eyes in cats. Some common ones are allergies and bacteria growth from the feline upper respiratory virus.

I am not saying those are the cause in your cat case and I would recommend if your worried speak to a licensed veterinarian. Having said that I think his easy really look perfect in that photo . Lastly he is a very handsome/pretty cat .

On his left eye in that picture you can see it in the corner.

(His left eye, so when you look at the pic, it's the ey on the right )

I don't know what to do anymore, the vet assures me there is nothing wrong with him and now when he sees me going towards his eyes with a cloth he pulls back and panicks, he HATES me cleaning his eyes.

I guess I'm going to switch his food and see if that makes a difference. I know in dogs it does...

My poor boy. I was able to clean one eye this morning and the other one he absolutely will not let me touch it and I don't want him to get angry at me, he is now curled up with Craig He figures he'll protect him.

Now that you point it out, yes I can see it . You really must not like gunky eyes to notice that .

If your veterinarian says he is fine then I would like to recommend a nonprescription eye medication called terramycin. This is often prescribed by veterinarians for cats with bacterial growth in the eye. Here is a website to the above product: http://www.rxlist.com/terramycin-drug.htm. If you choose to use this drug the cheapest way I have found to buy this drug is from: http://www.drsfostersmith.com.

Lastly as far as diet goes see if it helps .

Maybe your approach towards him is making him balk?
Cleaning the gunk out of eyes is part of a daily regimen with Simba but maybe when you catch him while he's sleepy, he will be less scared?
Also are you using your fingers? A wet cloth?
(And I also think Ollie AND Craig are both so gorgeous! )

That's Dixie, Craig is my hubby

I usually do get him when he's relaxed, and I pet all over him, pet his face and he's purring up a storm and loving it. I use a damp facecloth and as soon as he sees it he's gone.

I've also tried cotton balls...

I'm thinking I need a nother Siamese so they can groom each other and keep each other's faces clean

Ahahaha oops!

Hmm... maybe use something smaller and maybe warm(?) to imitate a tongue?

Oh my goodness I vote for another Siamese if you can handle another cat in the home!
That is a splendid idea.

I always use warm water but I don't know what I could use that's smaller than a cotton ball?

A q-tip but I would be too scared to poke him in the eye

Ollie is a BIG time groomer, he holds down all 3 dogs for their bath, especially my Schanuzer, he even cleans her dirty beard

From what I have read this is typical of Siamese, my other 2 cats really are NOT fond of him at all, they tolerate him but no touching or cuddling, so he has no one to groom him back.

I actually am getting another Siamese, same breeder as Ollie. Kittens are born now but I will only know in about 4 weeks if one of those kittens are mine, she has to go through the waiting list. If not she has another kitty due at the end of Aug. So it's just a matter of time.

What do you use to clean out Simba's eyes?

I fold a unscented "facial cotton" (?) in half with some warm water.

This thing is to apply lotion on the face or wipe away makeup but I can't think of what it's called at the moment.

It's gentle but firm enough and effective for me.
I figured you can't poke his eye with that like with a Q-tip and it wont leave fuzz like a cotton ball?

Oh my goodness... I'm so excited for you! That must be sooo cute seeing Ollie groom all the dogs. Sorry to hear your other cats won't have any of it. Do you have a name yet? (Or are you going to do a Name my cat thread again?)

Ohhhh I never thought of those, I will have to pick them up. I used to use them to remove my make-up but I'm too lazy to wear make-up now so I threw them out

I'm thinking we're going to name him Stanley but the boys REALLY wanna name kim Kaboodle

Ahahaha yeah, I was annoyed that cotton swabs always break apart into yucky bits so I decided to use these things and it works. Also if it's intimidating, cut it into 4 pieces so it's like a small cat tongue shape! (Then you can save more too!)

Let me know how it goes!

Hahahaha I guess that can be Stanley's nickname until the boys get tired of it?

Kaboodle...
