Strange Kitten Behavior!

Hi all!

I'm new to the site. Found it through trying to do some research on kitten behavior but I can't find the exact issue.

I recently begun to foster for my local animal shelter. They have given me four kitten 4 weeks old. This is my first time fostering or caring for kittens this young. I've had then for five days and things seem to be going well.

My question is about one of my kittens. She is a cream tabby named Freyja with beautiful blue eyes. She and I have bonded more than the rest of the kittens. She comes to me when I walk in the room, follows me and is in contact with my body pretty much at all times.

The behavior that she does that I do not understand is sometimes she will just randomly start to meow quickly with wide eyes. She walks up my body so that she can get right in my face. She then rubs her face on mine or just touches her nose to my face. If I let her do this she then wants to put her paws on my face which can hurt cause even though the touch is slow and gental the claws are out. If I push her away she starts to meow again quickly while looking very intently at me. Usually I pet her and talk sweetly to her cause really I'm not sure what is going on. I like nuzzling my face but the claws aren't ok.

Now that I am thinking about it I have one more question. One of the other kittens, soild white with two different color eyes named Hella is nursing constantly. I do try to stop her, move her or give her my finger which seems to make her stop as well but my main concern is her emotional needs as I'm sure all these kittens were taken from there Mother too soon and their health. Is her nursing a sign that I should bottle feed her or all of them? I just want to make sure they are eating enough.

Thanks for the help all!

Freyja is just being affectionate. At this age they can't fully retract their claws so that's why it hurts. Clipping the very tips of the claws will help, and will start the kittens off on letting people handle their feet. As she gets older her claw control should improve.

Hella might do well if you give her a bottle for another couple weeks or so. Not necessarily for her physical healh, but for her mental/emotional health. You could even put water in it if you don't think she needs formula. It's just the sucking she wants.
