I was so upset when I found out.

Here is one of my favorite songs by her:

Her voice was such a gift.

Rest in peace Amy.

She's been a car crash waiting to happen

Such a shame but alcohol and drug addiction is a disease that got hold of her

Tragic loss

I wish I could say I'm surprised to hear this. The road she was taking could really only lead one place, and this is it.

Rest in peace, Amy. I hope you are far happier where you are now.

Not a huge surprise What a waste of talent.

Never heard of her....

I always thought Michael Jackson's death was more epic. He was so cool!
My bet is she had plenty of enablers around her, just as Elvis and Michael Jackson did.

This was so obvious that I wasn't even surprised! I've been expecting this for a long time.

I find it hard to feel great loss upon the inevitable conclusion to a serious of poor life choices. I've just seen it coming from so many miles away, there's no tragic shock factor.

Things like this irritate me beyond belief. Here is a girl with an incredible gift. Her voice was lovely, she had true talent. What sense of entitlement does someone have to have, to throw it away like it's garbage. She threw herself away. In front of children and the world. We watched that horrible train wreck of a life, slowly spiral down to her final destruction.

Yes, it's sad. It's sad that such a gift was so meaningless. It's sad that she will not ever be able to rise above the addiction and destruction, and make herself a whole person and embrace that now thrown away gift.

It makes me angry. I'm sorry.

It's always tragic when someone so young dies.

We can't possibly know a person's situation unless we've lived a while in their shoes. There aren't that many people in the world who actually live up to their potential and fully develop their talents! And to do all that without any major issues or baggage... Who are we to expect that from her?

You are right. But I always find it a tragedy when someone hardly attempts to help themselves. Especially when they have a talent or gift that people would treasure. Any of these young start types that are so overly rich and totally bored that they need to start on a road of drugs and alcohol use, make me mad. Maybe it's because I cannot imagine throwing my life away like that.
I haven't walked in her particular shoes but I do know that I may not have an incredible gift or talent but I treasure what I was given.

Unfortunately she followed the same path that other women who sang in the same genre she did have went down. Billie Holliday and Janis Joplin come to mind. I think their singing talent as well as their addiction may come from the same place. They had inner demons and pain that money could not vanquish. Actually in some ways it makes it worse because they are surrounded by plastic people who see them as merely their meal ticket. I have always liked to listen to the blues and she was one of the best but I always wonder about the pain in their lives. I don't think it's possible to fake it when singing the blues.

I was addicted to cigarettes for 49 years and tried many times to quit unsuccessfully until at last my lungs were so compromised I had no other choice. I know how difficult that was for me and many others so I would never assume she never tried to help herself. I believe she was into drugs and alcohol before her fame so I don't think that even comes into play. I think most of us saw it coming and it was no surprise considering her lifestyle but that doesn't make it less of a loss.

None of us can know what we would and would not do unless we were in that place. It's easy to sit back and say I'd never do that, but as the old saying goes, "never say never".

Her death is tragic and I hope she has finally found peace.

Well put!
And to those who don't know, she did get rehabilitation several times.
It's not like she didn't try to change her life. She was very aware of her problems and it shows in her lyrics and also in her voice.

To bad, she was so talented

Yup, some people have nothing, everyday is a struggle, and yet they cling on and do their best.

Here she was given the world, and crapped on it. I have a tough time feeling sorry for someone that had all the writing on the wall and helping hands and tons of resources and just threw it all away. Wasn't very classy either punching a fan in the face at the concert. Its great to be born with a tremendous voice, but that's not enough to make me admire you as a person.

I agree with you as well. My only question is if you smoked for 49 years that makes you much older then I imagined. I thought you where in your late twenties like me. Or was that a typo . the 49 part?

I am not asking you to tell me your age. I just thought you where very hip .

That's what I'm saying. It's a tragedy when someone dies, but even with her "Rehab" song, and her poking fun at her family's attempted intervention...

She was a mess, we knew this was coming, and while it's sad, I can't help but say "what a waste".

Her funeral takes place today. The post mortem still didn't find the cause of death, but the toxicology report won't be for another 4 weeks

What to me is sad when anyone dies the way Amy Winehouse does is how tortured of a soul must that person be in order to take that many drugs?
She had a disease and it killed her. She's out of pain.
My heart goes out to her family. I saw her dad on TV, sobbing, and I just couldn't take it.

Amy did go and they told her she was just depressed. And it wasn't her family that insisted she go, it was her manager at the insistence of the media. She had just ended a relationship at the time and was seen out at the pubs one night drinking heavily after the breakup.

Amy was a musical genius and too young to leave this place. It is a tragedy. Many people will miss her and her music.

We are all so fortunate that we never make any mistakes in our lives with the choices we make. I wish she could have been perfect like us.

I'm not saying I'm perfect. If you are, that's cool!

They told her she was just depressed? When she went to rehab, with an IV drug habit and an up the nose habit? Well, if that's the case, then they are liable.

I agree, it is a tragedy. She had a gift and it was thrown away. She will be missed by her fans.

Whatever anyone thinks of her with her drink and drug habits, she was someones Daughter
