We have had full-on, running-around-the-house play for about two and a half hours today!!!

This morning Joni only needed a few minutes of observing before joining in with the boys. It started slow, with her sitting in a dining chair trading swats with Simon who was sitting on the table. It wasn't long until she was actively seeking them out, following them to swat & tumble.

It is similar to how the boys play/wrestle but there is not the trust yet that lets them be in complete physical contact while playing the way Simon & Garfunkel do. So they swat/jump/tumble, then back up and look at each other, then repeat. They are running from the bedroom out to the dining room and back at full speed, one after the other. It's REALLY funny.

The hissing has mostly dissipated and the growl only comes every so often. Joni has flopped to her side and shown her belly while wriggling around on her back several times, so I think that's a good sign. I think Joni has figured out that they are a lot of fun to play with and she is enjoying messing with them. I can't really tell if the boys are "enjoying" it in the same way - they have the big pupils going on and are a little skittish when I touch them, but they chase after her, too, don't hiss or growl, and aren't hiding. They would try to get away from her and hide behind the table or under the bed if they really were annoyed with her, don't you think? They're also doing my favorite little birdie chirp noise
which they usually do when they are playing with each other.

Joni's breathing pretty hard from all her exercise, so I'm considering separating them for a bit again because I'm not sure they'll be able to rest for more than a few minutes, or nap, in each other's presence.

I have been able to get several cool pictures, so a little later I will put those up in the appropriate section! Thanks for reading!!!

Sounds like things are going famously with them!! I don't think you'll need to worry about separating them as they're pretty good at knowing when to stop. Sounds like they're having a BLAST together!

How is Joni's behavior regarding the biting/scratching? Have you seen any of that like your friend did?

Thank you!!!!!
I'm pretty pleased with the way things are going!

She has only tried to bite my hand a few times, and that is when I move in to pet her and she wants to play. I think I'm just not picking up on her cues yet of when she is in play-mode and when she's in nap-mode. She will be stretched out on the bed next to me, and I'll go to stroke her back - sometimes it's welcomed and sometimes it's met with the play bites. I've been trying to just follow her lead once she tells me how she's feeling. (And of course I do not let her bite me or continue extending my hand after she starts biting.)

That is so awesome, I can't wait to see the pictures! I swear between you and your kids and Karen and Monet and Picasso, I can't wait to get another cat. This is the most maternal instinct I've ever had...

Oh, I bet you'd know if things were really not going well - and, yes, I think the boys would just jump to places Joni can't reach yet if they really wanted 'away'. Now, I think there will be times that one or more will just get 'tired' of the other two, and either swat a bit more seriously or go really high and away, but that's normal.

If I remember right, Joni was taken from her mom really early - she's learning from you and the boys what's ok and what's no ok, re biting - and she couldn't have better teachers.

You were right!!!!! We all napped together!!!!!!!!!!

Not the best picture - you can barely see Simon, but I did manage to get his legs, over in the right-hand corner, and Joni's are the dark ones on the left of course.

Then, when we woke up, Simon got up and stretched and walked over to Joni and actually LICKED HER LEG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
and she did not hiss or swat!!
Then, Simon went back and laid back down, and Joni came over and laid down about two inches from him to hang out by me for awhile - here's a pic of that!

I can't believe how well things are going.......... I'm just shocked! I'm going to go put up my play-time photos in the Fur Pictures section. I couldn't be more pleased.
How exhilarating!

She is SO not into the wet food. Won't even touch it tonight! I tried adding hot water to make it warm and soupy, tried to get her to eat it off my finger again, tried sticking kibble in it. Do I need to break out the tuna??!?!??!!!!!
That darn disgusting Meow Mix trash she was eating!!!!!

Did I tell y'all that my friend didn't even have a carrier?????? Her apartment complex found out she had the cat (yeah, she didn't tell them) and they made her get rid of her, so she took her to a friend's house for the last two or three days until I could get her. She was just driving around between cities with Joni hanging out in her minivan!!!! Then when I got to the house with the carrier, she said, "Oooh, look Angel, she brought you a fancy cat carrier." Yeah, them new-fangled contraptions. How novel.

p.s., haven't heard a hiss or growl in this house for several hours!

When it's good, it's VERY GOOD!

Thank you for sharing the GOOD news! It's great to be able to read about the joys and victories.

I don't even know you, but I sure know that joy you have as you watch them becoming a family.

Congratulations! I'm so glad you added this little girl to your family. The boys needed a little sister to "try" to pick on, although she may end up ruling the roost.

Keep working with the canned food. I hope she'll start to eat it for you.

Thank you!
It's been a lot of fun, with some nervousness intertwined, but all in all I think they are on their way to becoming fast friends. She is also relaxing even more in my presence too, she is starting to really enjoy cuddles and gave me some kisses this morning when I rescued her from being chased!

Thank you - and I completely agree that eventually she'll rule the roost. The boys are starting to pay her back for annoying them all weekend - this morning they were sleeping with me but she was sleeping under the bed and Garfunkel kept getting up to make sure she was still under there LOL!
Bad boy. But there's no hissing or growling anymore and they are even starting to wrestle with more body contact and not needing to break up right away, which I think is a sign of trust. She's still not eating the wet food, but I'll keep trying!
