The boys are home, awake, have eaten & done business, and napped snuggled with me for about an hour. Garfunkel seems to be a little steadier on his feet but funnily enough Simon is the one who seems to want to go out (they are holed up with me in the bedroom).

The vet tech said Garfunkel hissed at her when they tried to pet him in the cage after the surgery and that he stayed to the back of the cage, but that Simon was coming up for nose kisses (my sweetheart
). He may not be as dreamy-eyed lovey-dovey as Simon, but that certainly sounds weird. Do you think he was just groggy and didn't know what was going on & got spooked? He's almost completely normal now, except for being sleepy & not hyper/manic as usual.

Any tips on inspecting the site of the surgery over the next few days?? I was given discharge instructions but could use some experienced tips. There are no sutures, they seem to be grooming normally and not focusing too much on the area, so that seems good.

I got updated weights - last Wednesday at their vet appointment Garfunkel was 5.1 pounds and Simon was 4.8. 6 days later, Garfunkel is 5.6 pounds and Simon is 5.2!! That's a gain of 6.4 oz for Simon and half a pound for Funk!! That seems HUGE - is that normal, or do you think the scales in the two different vet's offices are different?

All right, that's all my burning questions for now

The bonus picture is one of those "Mooooommmm!!!!" pics
After eating they both went over to the litterbox and pawed around before finding this comfy spot.
Synchronized peeing! That's brothers for you, I suppose

Yay! Glad to hear they're doing fine.

Yeah, the drugs make them a little psychotic so hissing, growling, being extra lovey, etc. while coming out of the anesthetic isn't unusual and doesn't mean anything. They just aren't themselves at that point
.

Neuters are pretty simple and I've never had a bit of trouble. I just take a quick look back there once a day to make sure there's no redness, swelling, seepage, etc. Of course if you see any of that or if they go off their food or seem feverish call the vet right away.

I love the synchronized peeing picture! You have to show that to all their friends to embarrass them. . .

Aww, that pic is hilarious!

I'm glad they're back home with you. I'm sure just the whole experience plus drugs can make them act weird, but as said above, they should be fine, and if you notice anything off with them, then call the vet and/or take them in. I hope you can all get a good night's sleep tonight!!

That picture is great, and agree with what everyone said....everyone has a different reaction to sedation. But, if he stays 'hissy' for very long, do tell the vet for the records. My boy stayed pretty loopy after his first dental cleaning and was very hissy - I told the vet, they changed the sedation and added IV support, and the next cleaning seemed to have a much better 'back to normal' time.

And mine always stay at the back of the cages when they're coming back up - the techs so far have asked me to come in and talk to them to lure them into their carriers.

Willowy answered your questions, but had to chime in - that picture is too cute!
So glad they're doing well.

Oh - as to the weight - they do go through growth spurts, so it's possible.
It could also be a difference in the scales. I wouldn't be too concerned - they're at that age where it wouldn't be crazy - or a problem.

That picture is hysterical!!

Glad they're doing well and already returning to normal. Tumbles licked & licked & licked after he got home from his neuter. I think it was a combination of the drugs wearing off and him getting the scent of the vet office off him.

One thing I noticed with Tumbles is that he was a bit hesitant to jump the first day (after the meds wore off totally) and sometimes I could see him react to one of his jumps like, "Ouchie! I forgot it was gonna twinge a bit!" LOL Just take a look at the surgery site once a day and make sure it's not looking red and angry. If you noticed excessive licking, swelling, or anything abnormal, call the vet immediately!

Aww, so glad the boys came through okay. And I don't blame Garfunkel for being a little hostile to the people who did THAT to him!

Hmm, why's this in the pictures section?

Everything is looking fine this morning!
I did end up putting them out last night since they were playing, running, climbing, and so forth. It's almost kind of weird how normal they are... it's sort of like they don't notice or remember - or maybe the vet was lying and didn't neuter them!

Thanks for your help about checking out the incision site - everything looks good as far as I can see, and is less red than yesterday. So I think that's a good sign!

Sounds good, I won't worry about it!
They are getting to be so big anyway that I do believe the gains. This morning in particular I was noticing how long their tails are getting, especially Simon. I think his is longer than his body!!!

When Buddy was neutered - the surgeon said that they don't do stitches (or glue) anymore - the sac just closes up on its own without anything else needing to be done. He doesn't look like he's even had surgery - so I can imagine that you might be wondering if they really did undergo a procedure.

... Surgery
After making a small incision on the scrotal area, the scrotum is opened and the testicles are pulled out. The cords are pulled free and either tied or stitched to each other. The testicles are then cut off and some antibiotic powder is applied to the surgical area. The scrotal area naturally closes the incision, requiring no stitches to close the area. Cat neutering causes none to very little bleeding. ...
