There is a fire in the field behind our building. It's getting bigger and only about 200 feet from our building. The fire department told us we didn't need to evacuate and to stay in the building. How scarey is that?? I have asthma too and no inhaler with me.

I wonder how smart it is not to evacuate us since we are a research company with all kinds of explosive and flammable chemicals and across the street from us is the air national guard with all kinds of explosives??

They probably don't want any fumes to come out of your building. Just follow what they say and you should be okay.

There's no place like home
You said "field". Is this a grass field? tall grass? road or driveway between you and the fire?

If the fire department says it's Ok, then they probably have it under control!

It's a tall, brown grass/brush field. Basically desert land. It seems like they get somewhere and all of a sudden the fire builds up again and gets closer. We had to turn off all ventilation and air conditioning and it's over 100 degrees. I can't leave because I don't have a car! Sheesh! But at least now we have the City boys, County and Air guard out here.

It sounds kinda exciting to me....as long as it don't get too close. Remember fire departments >are< trained in this sorta thing. Just do as they tell ya and things should be OK.....relax...take 5 deep breaths. You will live through it.

Or tell him I need CPR!! Hey... why didn't I think about that??

This fire is huge. I just heard on the radio it goes up north all the way up to Layton and Hill Airforce Base. That's about 45 miles from here. It's running along the freeway (I-15) and started from a rolled over tanker or something. We are pretty close to the freeway. Between us and the freeway is about a 1/4 mile strip of desert land and dry brush.
And it's pretty windy here today. Of course blowing our way.

Tammy.....just don't reveal that you are a licenced "Spaminator Riffle" user. It may spook him away. I can just see his head bobbing up and down behind the couch while you fire away in between the CPR breaths.....LOL....Ha..Ha..Ha..

Well stay safe! Sounds kind of scary to me if it's that big of a fire and that close to your building.
But I guess the firemen know what's best. Keep us updated. . . and if you have your camera take pics of the firemen, I mean fire.

Darn! No camera with me!! Well it looks like they have it under control here. And I am attempting to go home in a minute. I guess the traffic is still pretty backed up. But I think most of it might be north of us.

No, sorry to disspoint you! I guess I'm too shy to go out crawling and begging for CPR.

Yeah, at least by our building. It's still going farther north of us. It was scarey because it was so big and so powerful. It spread so fast too. YIKES! Glad I'm home. But I got home and Peaches seems a little under the weather. I'm hoping it's just the heat. I forgot to turn the air conditioner on before I went to work. It was under 100 for a few days so I didn't have to.

Yeah they scare the crap out of me too. 18 years ago, the house next door to me burnt down. It was a really old house and we lived in an area with a lot of trees (Michigan). The house went so quick we didn't know what hit us. I remember I was watching a movie and all of a sudden it got very warm and I saw bright flashes. We could barely open the door but we got out! Our house faired well.
