update to urinating on counter

Hi all,

I had written last month, when Jak (my 4 year old grey tiger stripe) had urinated on the counter (after a very long urinary history of one blockage and numerous UTI's, that we now suspect were not true UTI's)

He has been on adequan since June 11, an injection every 4 days. Adequan is primarily used in arthritic racing horses, but I guess it's now coming into the feline domain. Jak has also been getting OTC Glucosamine supplements twice a day.

He is a different cat. He is ALWAYS happy, purring, comes over to almost anybody for petting, including strangers. He used to run when people came over & would growl, hiss & bat at my mother (of course she coddles every animal she can, so none are too fond of her) but she's been over twice now & he has been normal towards her, no growling/hissing/whatnot. He is just so much more laid back, loving people...it's amazing. Not that he was mean or anything, just pretty much did his thing & only wanted attention from one person.

We're also still using the dr. elsey's litter attractant, just because there's no reason to stop. Also, my mother (who has a problem/behavioral urinating cat) has been using the litter attract & has been having no issues since. Daisy (a female stray they took in almost 2 years ago) occasionally would urinate in various places on the carpet for no apparent reason. However,a fter I starts using the attractant for Jak, I gave some to mom to try & it's been working since. no issues & I ask her frequently.

Anyways, I just wanted to say thanks a TON to everybody who read & posted replies & offered info/advice. I'm just so thankful it seems like Jak's problem is medical, that there is a reason to explain his issues & behavior. I do think it makes perfect sense, he had this chronic cystitis, along with pain/discomfort for awhile, making him more irritable & less personable, but now that we hopefully have the inflammation under control his pain will stay away, along with the issues. not that I want him to have medical problems but I know we're lucky that it's medical versus behavioral.

Thanks again everybody! Glad to know you all are out there...

And Jak was blessed to have a family like you - willing to go that extra mile to figure out if the problem was treatable. I wish you (and your mom) many years of happiness with your cats.
