Hello all,

So I have a kitten, Beleg. He has just turned 11 weeks old... we think. We rescued him from our back yard a little over a month ago.

Today, I found what is definitely a round worm in his stool. I know what they look like from years of living on a farm and dealing with them in other animals.

I immediately went out to the pet store and bought the Excel Cat/ Kitten Round worm Dewormer. Does anyone have experience with this dewormer? Pros/ Cons? It says to give him an initial dose (which I did already), and then one more dose in 10 days.

Ideas, comments, or information is greatly appreciated!
Thanks
Amy

I wouldn't recommend to use a dewormer from a pet store or any other store. Take your cat to the vet to get properly dewormed.

You will find out that people on here do not like over the counter meds for pets....pls take your kitty to the vets for proper medication...just to be on the safe side...

I am planning on taking him to the vet in the next few days. Our vet is over three hours away so I can't just casually get there.

I have had animals my entire life and worked with large animal vets for several years, so i understand the importance of a good vet.

I was only asking for any information that anyone else might have about round worms in cats specifically.

Thank you.

Worms in cats are very common, especially in strays and babies. Once they're treated, though, they're usually not something you have to deal with again unless you don't apply a flea preventative. Then, you'll be dealing with tapeworms.

Thanks for the info!

As I said, I will make a vet appt in the am for this weekend.
I don't know a ton about cats... we had them on the farm, but they never got anything other than their rabies shots.

This is the first house cat I've ever owned... I never thought I could love a cat so much!

Glad to hear you are taking your kitty to the vet!
Over the counter flea/worm medications are very risky and have made many cats and dogs very ill. Even causing death. I almost lost my cat to cheap flea stuff.
I understand its hard when you have to travel long distances to a vet but if you're uncertain about anything, it never hurts to call and ask. Or, like you did, ask here.

Yeah, check out the web site...I think it's "Hartzkills.com."

But any pharmaceutical researcher will tell you that almost anything will react badly with a certain percentage of the population. When I worked at McDonald's, the internal word there was that any ingredient they added, no matter how innocuous, would probably kill 10 people in the United States.

I'm glad you've learned how great it is to own (and be owned) by a cat. One of the true joys in life, I think.

Hi and welcome
. Your vet is over three hours away
. There is no vet closer? Worms are pretty simple for any vet to treat. Please don't use any products for worms or fleas at pet stores and such. Your kitten will need the initial deworming and then another in two to three weeks. Congratz on your furbaby, they are easy to love
