Just getting it out. (I worry too much, I know...)

I got Simon & Garfunkel's neuter appointment pushed up to tomorrow. This will give them a FULL 48-hour recovery buffer before Joni comes home on Thursday night and more like a 60 hour buffer since they won't see her until Friday morning after she gets home from the vet. I'm happy about the way that's worked out.

However. I am still so nervous to be taking my kittens - my HUNGRY kittens since they have to fast from midnight - dropping them off in a strange place, and leaving them all day long, to have surgery at who knows what time during the day, and to be kept locked up the rest of the day.

I know the facts about neutering. I know they won't be "under" for long. I know the whole thing takes about 2 minutes. I know with kittens, especially males, it's a quick recovery time. I trust the place where I'm taking them, and I know they'll be taken good care of.

But I'm still worried. I know it's stupid but I can't help it!

Of course we all worry! It means you care .

Do you think you can ask a vet tech or receptionist to call you when they come out of surgery? It helps so that you won't have to worry all day, at least.

Do you have to wait until the end of the day to pick them up, or will the vet let you take them as soon as they recover from the anesthetic?

Awww. I know what you mean. I was a wreck when Oliver and then Tripod went through that. It sounds like you've covered all your bases. I sent prayers for your kitties too.

Worrying about Simon and Garfunkel is not silly or stupid -- it would be nearly impossible for you not to worry about your babies. But, that being said, it's a very good thing that you have such trust in your vet and their staff. Simon and Garfunkel will be okay. Without a doubt, they are tough little boys who will make it through their neuters without issue. And, before long, they'll be back home with you and then, come the end of the week, united with their new sister.

I will keep you and your boys in my thoughts as you all go through this process. Many, many vibes to you, Simon, and Garfunkel .

Be sure to check in with us tomorrow to let us know how you're doing and how the boys are. I know they'll be hungry and thirsty and I understand that they'll be in a new, potentially frightening environment. But, remember that they will be okay. The situation is temporary and they'll be back home with you in no time. And, consider bringing something of yours to the vet with them so that they have a familiar scent amid all of the unusual sights and sounds. I know that helps the kittens we spay and neuter. And, try to relax -- even though it's difficult, that is one of the best things you can do for the little ones.

Good luck and keep us posted. We're here for you...

It's not stupid at all to worry about your babies!!!

Holland was already spayed when I adopted her, but she did have surgery to extract all her teeth about a year and a half ago. I cried when I dropped her off in the morning, I worried all day, and I couldn't stop worrying until she was home safe with me. Her vet kept me updated with calls during the day, which was wonderful, but there's nothing that will stop you from worrying completely.

It's going to be a long day, I know, but your little guys are going to be just fine.

I worry too much, too, about all sorts of stuff, but there's nothing silly about worrying about your furbabies!! I'm sure they'll be fine, and you'll all be happy to be back home together when it's all done. Best wishes for all of you!

I never worry about things that are beyond my control. Just gotta except that it can't be helped, worry doesn't help, so just do your best to put it out of your mind and focus on positive things you can put your mind towards like shopping for some toys for em or cleaning up the house nice for their return and stuff like that.

I know EXACTLY how you feel hun! I was nervous every single time, even though I knew it was for the best and that they'd be fine. We can't help but worry for our babies.

Do ask the vet to call with an update when they're out of surgery!

Thank you - I will definitely ask them to call when the boys are out of surgery. Their policy is pick-up between 5 & 6 only, though.

I will definitely do that - they have a baby blanket that they lay around on and sleep with that goes in their carrier with them to the vet's - so I'll just ask them to take it with them to their cages or wherever they're staying.

Thanks, y'all. It's nice to have a place to vent where people don't think I'm totally weird & crazy. Right, guys? ...guys??? ...
No, you're perfectly normal - at least here! Truly, we've all worried. Every time I've taken mine in for their dentals, I made sure I had a ton of work to distract me...and made sure my phone was with me everywhere. I usually try to make sure I've got a vacation day scheduled - so I can run pick them up immediately.

One thing I try to do - send a thank you note after I've brought my babies home to thank the staff for their patience and good work. I figure any good vibes might extend to my babies.

Truly, you won't feel ok until they're home and acting 'normal' - but that's just the price we pay for loving them.

No one can guarantee that everything will go perfectly - but the odds are with you.

my friend!.........

It's not stupid to worry!

You love them and want them to be safe. Never feel bad about that

After they completely wake up from the anethesia, they'll be back to their normal selves. And likely even more cuddly.

Lots of vibes for your babies.....and for you

Good Luck tomorrow

I think we all worry to some extent about our kitties, no matter how supposedly "small" the reason. It only shows you care. I honestly think it's harder on us than it is on them, though.

It's not stupid at all!!

Good luck to Simon and Garfunkel Peanut sends his condolences for your losses.

Ha! Thanks for the laugh in the middle o' the night! And of course you're not crazy... it's torture to have to leave them alone. But once you get them home, they'll be so happy! And in a day, they'll barely notice anything has happened. It'll be okay, promise!

Special love and to Simon and Garfunkel...

Good morning all... Thanks for all your vibes and hugs! I surely do need them. After some craziness last night I overslept this morning and had to rush to get to the vet's. But in a way that was good since I didn't have time to freak out, lol!!! I'm grabbing some breakfast and on my phone posting this. So far I'm feeling pretty good! They are going to call me after the surgery

Just got word the boys are out of surgery and doing very well! She said they were starting to move around, that is such a huge relief to me!!!!!!!!!!

As an added bonus, the vet tech said they didn't find any ear mites when they did the pre-op exam - those wretched things that I've been trying to treat for more than a month!

I can't wait to get them home and feed the poor sweeties, and snuggle with them until they are feeling better.

Thanks everyone for your encouragement - it has really meant a lot to me in the last 24 hours!!! I'm so relieved and happy it's almost over!! Now just bookmark this thread for when the dread comes back during Joni's spay appointment in a month or so

We can HEAR (and feel!) your relief! GREAT news! I think you'll get some sleep tonight!

Woohoo!! So glad all went well and they're doing fine.
