Older cat is afraid of kitten

My roommates 2 cats are scared of my new kitten.

Roger, he's a 3-4 year old DSH, I am not for sure if he his neutered, my roommates aren't home right now so I can't ask, but if he isn't I think I might ask my roommate if he will let me neuter his cat, anyways, the other Dudley, is about 16 years old, declawed (came to her that way, sadly) & neutered.

I put Phaedra (my 8 week old kitten, she isn't spayed yet) in a kennel and let Roger scope it out. He gets down low and they have low growls at each other and then hiss and paw at each other and then Roger runs away. Her and Dudley just hiss at each other, since he doesn't have claws I am not very worried about him hurting her.

I really want the cats to be able to get along. I don't want to keep Phaedra locked up in my room all the time, I want her to be able to have friends, but I am too scared she will get hurt by Roger since he is big and has his claws, and they clearly aren't comfortable with each other. Is there an easier way to go about this? How long do you think it will take? Will anything happen if I just let them loosely roam around the room?

I should look better before posting! Can someone delete this thread for me please?
