My cat is being weird.

Hi everyone,
My cat Molly (8 and a half) went missing on Monday night. We found out yesterday that she had had a fight with a cat in our next door neighbours garden and subsequently barked at by their dog on that evening.
Yesterday i put notes through all the neighbours doors asking them to check sheds etc.

She went missing once before 6 years ago. She had a fight, and i assume hid in a shed. 6 days later she apeared very ill with dehydration and an abcess from a cat bite.

After hearing my next door neighbours story i felt that she had gone off to hide again.

This morning when we started to walk the kids to school, my husband heard a familiar squeek coming from the back of someones garden. Sure enough there she was. Its really enclosed and overgrown.

We coaxed her out and she came in for a spot of food and a drink (she never drinks in public - last time i saw her drink was when she came back from being missing last time) Then she wandered around our back garden, went next door (not the dog side) came back over, taking the downwards trip over the fence v slowely. She then went out the front door, and went back to the garden we found her in. We left her to it to see what would happen. She has been sat there all day.

We tried to get her to come out through out this eve but she was having none of it. She eventually came out when it rained.

It seems so so strange that she went back there, and stayed there for so long. We know her behaviour, and she always greets eh car - she didnt do this even though we know she could see and hear us.

Tonight she has had some food and a drink, and jumped up with my husband which is really unusual (she isnt a lap cat) She went upstairs and came back down v gingerly. She wanted to go out almost imediatly, and i just know she wanted to go back there. she is normally a real home creature - we have to force her out most days!

Im guessing her slowness to walk downstairs is down to her having no food or drink for 4 days, but as for why she is feeling the need to go back to this one place i have no idea. Could it just be fear?

Thanks for any advice or thoughts!

I really have no idea why she wants to go back there.
But if it was my cat I would not allow her outside at all untill I was very sure she was not hurt or ill. The way you are describing her walking sounds like she has been hurt.
If she has been hurt or is sick often cats go off to die..Might be best to keep her inside and have her checked by your vet..

It sounds like she's had a bit of trauma. I think a few days indoors with the normal routine might set her right. She needs to feel safe again. For whatever reason, that spot she wants to go to is offering her some comfort.

Please have food and water accessible to her when she is outside. If this is not possible, then have food and water inside your house and a way (cat flap/door?) for her to go in when you are not at home.
I feel I should say this but IMHO, forcing a cat out is a bit drastic. My cats go outdoors too and I don't believe in keeping them inside all the time. Yet, I would never force them out.
