Until a few months ago, I'd never had a kitten (only full grown cats). I brought her home from her spay appt. today (it was done this am) and I'm worried she's going to lick through her sutures. The tech assured me that this was pretty uncommon because they don't like the taste of the sutures on their tongue.

Aside from sleeping a bit this afternoon, she's been trying to be as spry and active as usual. I'm having a time "keeping her quiet" and still. She intermittently licks the area (like once or twice, though it doesn't seem like she's trying to accomplish anything) but I can't tell if she's just licking in the vicinity or the actual sutures. I'm thinking of buying one of those cone collars but if the intermittent licking is normal, I'd rather not (not to mention putting it on her will be fun, not). I'm also afraid of her jumping around like an idiot is going to burst a suture or something. She has so much energy.

I read on another post here someone sprayed a bit of Green Apple of the wound to deter licking, but I'm afraid that will sting her or impede healing.

I've also read a few people talking about getting no sleep due to staying up with their babies lest they burst a seam. I really need to sleep, so please assure me that most likely everything will be fine. Any tips would be great too.

I would just keep an eye on the incision. If it gets really angry looking and red, then she definitely needs to go back to the vet. Don't spray it with anything! If you get really concerned, you can take an old tube sock and cut off the foot part. Fit it over her front legs and head and wiggle it down to her midsection. This will keep her from being able to get to the stitches.
