Gross spammers

Thread Starter
For some reason we are being hit with a LOT of spammers/trolls who sign up and instantly post as many threads as possible with pornographic material. The photos are pretty graphic, so apologies to those who see the pictures. We are trying to look at the profiles of each new member, and keep an eye on them, but we can't be here all the time, and some are sneaking through.

We thank you for your patience, and please continue to report any such posts. If you report just one of their posts, we will see it, so don't feel as though you need to report each one.

Hopefully they'll get bored and go away very soon!!!

Yikes! Today's were particularly bad!

Thanks for all your hard work! It's quite shocking to have a pornographic picture pop up on your work computer...

Of course, one could argue that I really shouldn't be on TCS during work hours to begin with...

These people seriously need to find something to do with their time.

I've never seen such a spammer, but I know they have been here because of people posting about them.

I guess that means the mods are quick to take care of the situation, which is a good thing

My shockability threshold is in the stratosphere, but by reading previous posts I can tell that some people here might have had a coronary event after seeing today's pictures!!!!

After seeing a few of these porno spammers in the past, I am happy I missed today's freak show! I wish these people (a**holes) would stop trying to exploit our forum!
I seem to have missed them too. So you guys must be doing a good job! We do appreciate it!!

I think that it's all about the timing - kids are out of school now, and have too much time on their hands - and their parents or ? - are too busy to oversee, or maybe have little knowledge about computers or the internet?

I bet if there was a record of when this spamming increases annually we'd find that the spamming coincides with school recess?

Thank you moderators for your hard, hard work on our behalf!

I really hope that it isn't teenagers that are exploiting themselves!

I've been fortunate enough not to come across any such posts lately. My roommate used to run her own forums and moderated another set. I've seen some nasty things (not too much surprises me online anymore). I also saw how much work goes into running a good, clean forum.

Kudos to the staff here. Thanks for keeping up with it as best as you can. I'm sure everyone will forgive you if you get a little behind.

I reported one - it was obvious what it was without looking at he picture!
Whatever their chronological age, it's very obvious they've got juvenile minds and aren't getting any action.
What is the point of spamming anyways??

Like seriously, I have no idea, is it just to tick us off? Is there a reason they do it?
Maybe they're under the mistaken impression that people here will be absolutely shocked by a few off-color photos. Like I said, juvenile minds. That's the way a 13-year-old thinks. It's rather pitiful.
The mods are quick to get rid of them. I opened one shortly after it was posted, tried to report it and it came up with a message that I wasn't authorized. The mod sent me a PM and she was in the process of getting rid of it when I tried to report it. Obviously the people who are doing this have way too much time on their hands during the summer.

What some forums do is require introductory posting before access to forums, and then the first few posts have to go through a moderator before being seen.

We can also moderate new registrations, but use it as an absolute last resort. In many cases new users post here in a panic about their cat and we would hate to have to wait until their post is approved for them to get help.

Ah, but no one here would ever argue that!

Back in the early days of the internet, I was on a live-chat site that was attacked by this kind of spammer. The theory that developed was that this person was obsessed with pornography, but ashamed of his obsession, and somehow felt better if he forced others to look at it, too. That certainly fits the juvenile psychology.

But it could also just be someone who assumes that all of us here on a cat site are delicate little old ladies who'll hyperventilate at the sight of a few nekkid pictures. Ha! Just leave us your name and address, kid... we're a lot tougher than you think!
