Fleas and/Or Mites in work place!

I just found out today that the building I work in has a flea and/or mite infestation. (Apparently, its been happening for a few weeks and they sent an alert today). The building will be bombed on saturday. They sprayed the carpets yesterday.

Naturally, I am worried that I might've unknowingly brought some home and to my kitties!

Can someone suggest a good preventative or steps I can take to ensure these pests don't get in my home and to my cats?

The exterminator did suggest leaving shoes outside, washing clothes in hot water and taking a hot shower, but it might be too late since its been going on for weeks

I know for a fact our office has fleas. People have seen them and have randomly gotten bitten but management doesn't seem to believe anyone and nothing is ever done. I'm not worried about my kitties as they're always treated regularly anyway, just in case, plus I work from home fairly often, but it is still absolutely disgusting and SOMETHING should be done. The only thing I can suggest hun is to make sure your babies are treated preemptively.

Since Monet was always an indoor cat, and Picasso, I never treated for fleas or preventives. I'll have to look into the best flea treatments

All of my kitties are indoors as well and even though all fosters are treated before they come here, I'm still always worried. A lot of friends and family members have pets as well, so anyone could bring fleas in, plus we can bring them in very easily just on our shoes from outdoors.

Revolution is probably the very best but Advantage & Frontline are good as well.

Unless you are certain your cats have fleas or mites, i.e., you've seen them, then don't give them a flea medication. All flea medications are virtually poison and if they aren't needed one should not do it.

I would recommend you go to a local nursery or farm product store and get yourself some food/human grade Diatomaceous Earth to put into your carpeting. DE is finely ground diatoms (a miniscule crustacean) and is like sharp shards of glass to insects but totally safe for humans and animals. Farmers often add this to their cattle feed which rids them of internal parasites.

Sprinkle it into the carpet and even the furniture, brush in down into the fibres, leave it for a few days before vacuuming.

This should work not only as a preventative measure but also if you have brought some in with you on your clothing.
