Just thought I'd stop in and say what a wonderful job you've done on the site. Very clever, nice and neat and love the new colors

TCA's server's service provider has been down for over four days ~ one Board that we know of has vanished The guy is a member at TCA also, but from what I understand he's not going to rebuild it There's so much work involved in that ~ tough going, but anyway, best wishes ~ ~

Well that's good, I misunderstood your message, I thought you meant your board was lost- I know how much hard work went into getting it just right, so glad it was not lost after all.

Thanks Hissy ~ that's really nice of you. We still have lots of work to do; but I don't mind it, I totally enjoyed putting that up I just Thank God we didn't lose any data.

Thanks for dropping by Catarina! So sorry to hear about your board - it's a webmaster's worst nightmare. Why is it taking them so long to bring up the server? Maybe you should just switch hosts if you're not very happy with them. I recommend Westhost.com - using it for all our sites right now.

Hi Anne ~ The main production server that houses the majority of accounts was attacked by a DDoS. I've never heard of this type of "cracker" (I'm very familiar with hacks and crackers on Boards themselves, but never this large of a scale ~

Here'sthe definition of DDOS:

A hacker (or, if you prefer, cracker) begins a DDoS attack by exploiting a vulnerability in one computer system and making it the DDoS "master." It is from the master system that the intruder identifies and communicates with other systems that can be compromised. The intruder loads cracking tools available on the Internet on multiple -- sometimes thousands of -- compromised systems. With a single command, the intruder instructs the controlled machines to launch one of many flood attacks against a specified target. The inundation of packets to the target causes a denial of service.

At the present time, the server is being restored. Rather than transfer all sites to a new server (which would require that we wait 48-72 hours for DNS to resolve to the new server), they elected to bring this server back online as soon as possible.

At the present time, they're awaiting activation of a new CPanel license, as they've replaced the hard drive in the machine that was attacked to ensure that the file system remains secure.

Once that license comes live, they'll take a few minutes to transfer all customer data to the new hard drive and bring everyone's site live once more.

That's about all they could tell us due to security purposes ~ unfortunatley terrible things can happen to the best of people and that's just what happened here.

Jeesh, you'd think some people would have better things to do with their time than making other creating such fiascos for others ~ I have no idea how many Boards were lost, but what a shame and terrible expense for some. I plan to stay with KCDWorks, however; I really have no idea how this will affect them legally and if they have some type of insurance that covers this type of thing, as no one really knows the cost that some business's may've lost due to the attack.

I'll defnitely keep your host in mind Anne if KCD finds itself into deep trouble
