My sister and I both left work at noon yesterday to do some shopping and to have dinner together. It was a nice afternoon. We spent some time looking for a fountain at several places, and then browsed in several antique shops along our way before stopping for dinner. We didn't buy anything at any of the antique shops, but I did buy a fountain.

We had stopped at FarmerBoy, which is where we bought Rupert the Gargoyle last year. I had seen a lion head fountain last year and wondered if they still had it. They did. And it was $100 cheaper. So we went inside and I asked if that was the absolute best price he could give me. He thought about it, looked it up in the catalog, did some more thinking and took another $100 off the price. I texted DH, showed him some pictures; he texted me back and told me to go for it. We're going down Sunday to bring it home in the truck.

We won't be able to put it together right away because I have to clean out the area at the pool where we want to install the fountain. And then DH and my BIL are going to install an electrical line. It's a Masserelli fountain; you can see more of their fountains here: http://www.massarelli.com/ .

I couldn't find an exact picture of the fountain, but I did find something like it. This picture is pretty much it, except for our top is just a bubbler, which is what DH wanted. But the water comes down through the top, spits out of the lions' mouths and then recirculates. I'll post a picture when it's installed and we have it landscaped a bit.

But here's what it looks like:

It's not all that tall, maybe about 4-1/2 feet or so, so it should fit in the area well. We have a 4-foot tall wooden picket fence around the pool. The pool is elliptical-shaped, so there are three triangles between the concrete decking around the pool and the fence. The pool pump is installed in one of the triangles and we're going to put the tiki bar in another triangle area. The fountain will go into the third triangle.

My initial thought was to plant catmint around the fountain. But I really like the way the base of the fountain looks and I don't really want to cover that base (and catmint grows and spreads like crazy), so now I have to rethink. Ferns would be like nice, like in the picture, but the area is very, very sunny and I'm not sure how well ferns would do in full sun. Plus I have to consider the effects of chlorinated water on whatever plants will be used (from splashing about in the pool). Any ideas? Keep in mind, lots and lots of sun.

So I'm excited and I'm looking forward to getting it working. I hope it will look nice at the pool!

Lovely fountain!
Not sure about which plants to have though. Those ferns look nice, but like you said wouldn't do well in such a sunny spot.

Actually, the area doesn't look very nice right now. We're working on ripping everything out and starting over. Yes, I will take some pictures when everything is finished.

We don't really have a lot of statuary. Rupert, the Gargoyle, lives in the flower garden in the front yard by the house. Apex, the Dragon, lives on top of our arbor going into the pool area. And Biz and Roland, the Drain Spouts, are living right off the end of the house where the rain spouts come down off the house into the yard. And now the fountain for the pool area and the bird bath for the flower garden in the back yard.

We brought the fountain home on Sunday morning. The store owner was nice enough to take it apart (three pieces), so that we could load it into the truck easier. And while we were there, DH started looking around at the bird baths; he has wanted a bird bath for several years now, but never saw anything that he really liked. He finally found his bird bath for the flower garden in the back yard, so we brought that home, too.

I'll take some pictures when it's finished. Right now, everything is just a mess with old, leggy shrubs that need to be dug out. The hosta doesn't look very nice in all the heat and everything looks very dry.
