Advantage flea drop question

Hello,
I was given a new box of Advantage ii flea drops for cats and kittens 5-9 pounds. I was wondering if I would be able to use this on my 4 month old kitten, though. He is around 3 or 4 pounds, so I'm not sure if I should treat him with it or not. Is it possible to use just half a tube or anything?

Since those topical flea treatments go by weight I probably would not use it without first speaking to a vet. I don't know if the strength is the same for each weight group or if the amount is different. That's why I would ask a vet.
