My kitten Jasper is 5 months old. About two months ago he had an allergic reaction and had to be hospitalized overnight on oxygen. His throat had nearly closed up entirely and he couldn't stand on his own without falling over immediately.
Now, whenever I leave him alone (even if for half an hour to go to the shower/bathroom, etc) he begins to act very strange. He becomes extremely lethargic and refuses to move. If I've been gone for a few hours, once I return, he is still laying in the same spot--unmoved--and has either urinated or defecated on himself. It usually takes him the rest of the night and well into the next day to recover, and during that time he is generally unresponsive. When I pick him up to stand he just falls to the side immediately, and when he attempts to hop off my bed (about 2ft) he can't land on his feet.
He is really off-balance all the time. The past few days have been especially weird--he hasn't wanted to play and I've had to use a dropper to get him to drink water a few times.
I have been to numerous veterinarians and none of them have been able to help me or my kitty. It's getting to the point where I am afraid to leave him alone. I have no idea what is going on. He had x-rays done of his chest and they were fine; no abnormalities. All of his tests have come back normal. The few vets I've been to have said that it is behavioral--but how then do I fix it?
I'm using Feliway, I leave music on when I leave to comfort him, I keep his litter box clean, I give him fresh water every day and I keep food in his bowl. I don't know what else I could possibly do...
Anyone have any ideas at all?
He doesn't behave this way when I'm around--so I'm wondering if its some sort of separation anxiety? And it started after he had the allergic reaction. I'm just worried because I'll be starting school in September and I don't want to have to worry about him when I'm in class all day...
