We have babies, not cats or people though.

I was talking to my Mom on the phone and noticed something floating in the fish tank, then I realized it was moving, not floating. So I got up and walked over to the fish tank. We've got 8 (so far that we can see) little baby fish swimming all over the place! So that ups the number from 9 to 17!

I was just about to ask the same question ... protect the babies if you want to keep them, otherwise they're "fish-food."

It's cool to watch a fish give birth. Though I didn't know it, I bought a swordfish that was pregnant. I was lucky enough to be watching the aquarium when she started shooting those little things out! They came out curled up and rocketed across the tank, hit the side, uncurled and started swimming. I lost track of how many there were; A LOT! Unfortunately, the black mollies got them all.

I don't know if this is right, but they're Mollies?

No, we don't have anything because we didn't plan on babies. They've been around for a while though because they're almost a centimeter long. I can't believe we didn't notice them before, but I did just add more water to the tank and a bunch of ice cubes. Maybe that brought them out of hiding.

Right here! :)
Awwww, how cute! I had fish when I was a kid, and I surely agree, it was amaizing to see them be born, they were just born and instantly ready to go.

It's been over 100 out here and we have no AC so they get hot and started swimming like nutsos. We pop about 6 ice cubes in the tank and they calm down like magic. It's fun to watch them because they go up and "kiss" the ice repeatedly until it's gone.

How fast will these babies grow?

If the babies have good hiding places they should grow pretty fast. We had guppies but all the babies got eaten because I didn't know we need to devide them
If you have some kind of screen you can put in there that the babies can get through but the big fishies can't that will help them. Good luck! I just reset up my fish tank and once I get the water stable we are getting some fish. i had gold fish but they are so messy! I think I want guppies, mollies, neons, and kissing fish...I dont know if I can have the fishing fish with the guppies and mollies though.

We got two white Mollies and two black Mollies and everyone at the store was laughing at me. I didn't realize what was going on till we got home and I had to laugh too. You see, I'm white and hubby is black. So we've got a total black and white family!

We also got an orange Chinese algae eater.

If people are interested I'll update you guys on the babies if they make it. I think it'd be cool if they did, but it wouldn't be a terrible thing if they didn't.

Does anyone know the gestation period for Mollies?
