Hi I bought a can of powered KMR from my local pet shop. I didn't realize you had to refrigerated the powder after you open the seal. So i had the powder out at room temperature for a few hours before i put it in the fridge.

doing some further research online I read that the powdered KMR is supposed to smell a bit like milk. when i first opened the can it didnt smell like milk. but it didnt have a sour smell either. it was also kind of in clumps when i first opened it, im assuming its supposed to be like that.

im starting to wonder if it was a bit rancid when i first bought it

heres a picture of it, keep in mind this was after it was in the fridge for a couple of hours

The real question is, what had you done so far? As I suppose you have a kitten who must have a working substitute milk immediately?

I suppose the milk shouldnt get bad as soon. Although if you think it feels and looks peculiar I cant recommend you to test on the kittens... Of course, you can test a little on yourself.

If you can get goat milk it is the easiest way out. and you can begin with it. Otherwise, there are surely other brands too, although the KMR brand is supposed to be the best.

Lets hope other have good answers for your question.

I used a powdered brand (it was gnc brand I think, it was a few weeks ago), and I didn't see anything about having to refrigerate the powder, just once we mixed powder w/ water to keep it cold. Obviously, it is a diff brand so I can't go by that, but mine sat our for days. It looked like your picture the entire time, and smelled horrible....idk, no real advice about that here. My powder was clumpy too.
I did want to mention, IDK if the kmr brand does this or not but the powder brand I used caused constipation in my 3 kittens pretty badly and from some reviews I read, it is more typical to get constipation with powder formula. I definitely recommend making sure that whatever kittens are eating the powder, watch to make sure they still have regular poops and don't get stopped up from it.
