OK, we dont even have the new baby yet and Im scared to death for her =(

She is only going to be 10 weeks old and has lost another ounce, what gives? Her foster mom says she is eating, but still has loose stools off and on. I am so worried at this point its making me kind of nauseated. I suppose for me its a control issue.

She is currently eating Royal Canin kitten food. From what I understand this is a decent brand, I have never fed it to my cats. I just wish there was a way I could monitor what and how much she is eating, weigh her daily and stop being so paranoid. For weeks now I have waited and if something happens before we can even get her home, silly as it might seem, I will be devaststed.

Is there anything I can suggest to help put weight on the baby? She was calling the vet and she said she would let me know, but thats been hours ago.

EEEP!

The best food in the entire world isn't the best if it has a food allergen in it.

Personally, I believe in having a decent dry out 24x7 and feeding wet several times a day. Best to get lots of calories in em since they are so active, and its not likely they are going to get fat.

So if it were me, I'd try a different brand wet and throw in some kitten kibble. BTW, Blue Chicken and Rice kibble gave Buttercup soft stools (took a bit to narrow it down). Never did figure out which ingredient it was, just switched and voila, and trying to finish the last of the bag so as not to waste it and back to soft it was despite a usual slow transition. Just something in there her tummy didn't like.

I use Royal Canin Kitten for my little ones. However, if I'm concerned about weight, I supplement with Performatrin Kitten Chicken wet food. A heaping tbsp three times a day.
An ounce isn't huge unless she is continually losing or plateauing. Has she been tested for Coccidea etc? What colour are the stools? Any blood? Are they extremely foul smelling? Is her water intake sufficient?
It sounds like the foster parent is doing the right thing...talking to the vet.

She had both coccidia and giarda (poor mite!!) and is currently finishing up treatment. I have never had a kitten or cat with either of these. So I was not sure about how normal weight loss was. The stool has been yellowish and no blood, she drinks plenty. Im not sure if she is getting just dry kibble that is being wet down or wet kitten food.

It just worries me to bits

I plan to feed her wet kitten food with a little kibble so she has munchies between meals.

i feed royal canin kitten, my guys are 7 months now. I also mix in royal canin 33 special at a rate of about 4:1 - 4 cups of kitten to 1 cup of 33 adult. I also feed wellness wet, about 3oz a day each.

good luck! I think your baby just needs to finish the medication. I don't 'think' it's the food, my guys have no stomach issues.
