Revolution medication?

Hi all, I just took my kitten to the vet for her distemper and deworming. I wanted to get ear mite medication but they were out and said they would get their stock back on Thursday, they said they use the brand "Revolution". Is anyone familiar with this, and if so, what do you think? Is it an okay medication to use on my little girl? If not, what brand should I use? Thanks all

Well, first work with your vet, but I use Revolution on my two adults....it takes care of ear mites, and most importantly for me, heartworm, as well as fleas and ticks. I'd ask them to explain Revolution more fully to you, but it's used by a lot of people.

Hi thanks for your response, of course I will discuss it with the vet, just wanted to see what other people used/are using for their kittens

I have used Revolution to treat ear mites for my rabbits. Works great. It's used to treat fleas as well and I love it. None of the other flea treatment meds have worked as well as Revolution for me. (well not for me, for my critters but you got the idea lol)

I use it for all my guys and haven't had any problems. I also like the fact that it treats heart worms and ear mites. How old is your kitten? We used in on our Freya at 5-6 months if I remember correctly. (It's been awhile )

The lady I got her from said the litter was born May 13th, which I believe would make her almost 8 weeks old. She said she was the smallest of the litter and that the mommy wasn't very big either. When I took her to the vet today she weighed 1 lb and they said they think she is about 6 weeks and changed her birthday to May 29th, but I told them that the woman I got her from said they were born May 13th and that she was basically the runt of the litter. So I don't know what to think :/

She's also had loose stools but she just got dewormed and distempered today, so hoping to recover from that, so that could also be why she hasn't gained much weight. I was feeding her science diet but then I bought Wellness dry & canned to feed to her after doing research and finding that what I was feeding her was pretty much crap. So hoping she starts putting some more meat to her bones

I wish I could find out how old she REALLY is because I want to get her spayed before she comes in heat for the first time.

We use Revolution on our kitties. They do make a kitten dose, for kittens less than or equal to 5lbs AND at least 8 weeks of age. You can order it online and the pharmacy will call your vet for a prescription. (Our vet doesn't carry it, so this is how we get it.)

Many vets will either go by weight for the spay (at least 2 lbs) or by age. Usually at a decent weight and somewhere near 6 months.

May I ask what website you order it from? I've looked at a few and read reviews and they were looking very shady.

Honestly, with a little one this small I would not recommend buying any online meds now. I think it would be better to work with your vet in this matter and get your meds from him. I'm rather dubious about a lot of online stuff but that could just be me.

Wet food is very good for your kitten but to help gain weight you could also feed some dry. If you are at work most of the day, it probably is good to free-feed dry food to help with the weight gain.

I wouldn't order online - unless maybe from Dr. Foster - but you still need the prescription from your own vet (if you see a site that doesn't require a prescription, run like hell away for it). I really don't think the savings are worth taking a chance - assuming there are savings at all. I priced Revolution at Dr. Foster and it was running right around the same price as my own vet.

Thanks guys! I called my vet, the thing was is that I live half an hour away from my vet, so I wanted to see if I could get it sent to my house, but I called them and the price was actually a lot cheaper than I thought it was going to be, which is a bonus! Also they are going to ship me the first dose for free

I'm glad I asked here, otherwise it could have ended badly if I made a different decision.

I have used Revolution on domestic cats and found it quite useful. The only word of "wisdom" I have is make sure you know the animals weight. Since the dosage is based on weight.

Again speak to the veterinarian about any specific issues/concerns you have.

I use Frontline Plus on my domestics only for finical reasons and working as a vet tech . But I put Revolution on my Savannah Cat!

I treated my 31 cats with it yesterday and a month ago. No issues except some hair loss at site in a few cats. It works and is fair priced.

Acarexx was used by my vet for a cat nursing 3 week old kittens and was told there would be no issues and mom could go back with them. Shes the one who started this-She was taken in pregnant and later found out with earmites.

When will your vet spay, any age/weight requirments? I use vets who will do it at 2lbs.

Yes my vet requires at least 2 lbs, so she can't get spayed yet, I just want to get her spayed before she comes in heat for the first time, so hopefully she can gain another lb before then. She is starting to get solid stools back so I think her medicine from yesterday is working
