I adopted 2 kittens from a rescue 5 days ago both about 4 months old. (Rescue said they were dewormed/and had 2 rounds of distemper- waiting on a copy of their records) I also have two adult cats.

My problem is one if the kittens likes to eat the adult cats dry food. Then she gets sick, she also has occasional diarrhea. I know that can be dangerous in kittens but her behavior isn't any different and she doesn't seem dehydrated ( checked her gums and the elasticity of her skin)

Do you think that the stomach issues are coming from her eating the adult cat indoor food and not her kitten food? I don't know whether to take her to the vet or not. Any Ideas/help?

they are very young and had a lot of stuff done to them such de-worming / distemper shots all of which can cause an upset to their system. Again as they are only 4 months old I would be cautious, call your vet explain what is going on without making the assumption that it is the adult dry food that is causing the issue---just tell them the facts and let them direct you.

Thanks for responding.

I called the vet they can't see her as a regular patient until tomorrow morning. The receptionist did offer to see if the vet thought that they needed to see her as an emergency.

Its hard to tell if she is lethargic or not since I have only had her 5 days I don't know what her temperament is yet.

I am mostly worried about dehydration right now she is a very small cat and doesn't have much to her.

Try offering some chicken broth...they might take to this easily if you are worried about dehydration. Just in humans the skin when pulled up should spring back easily.

Thanks I went to the emergency vet last night and the vet said that she had more Campylobacter bacteria that she would like. so they gave her some antibodic and a subQ and sent her home with us. She is doing much better but since she is very small only 1.1lb we are taking her and the other cat we got to the vet today for a all around check up. I am going to post and see if anyone has any exp with Campylobacter.

THanks for your help last night I was kind of freaking out,
