15 year old Spooky just had a vet diagnosis of excellent kidneys and bloodwork but possible tumor or liver problems. Next step is an abdominal scan. Recently when she settles down on our lap for a nap her purring will start with deep contractions or hyperventilating, like she's out of breath. This lasts maybe a minute at most. Her mouth is closed as she does this but it looks like she's laboring. Then she settles down and sleeps.
Her energy level is that of a 5 year old cat. She's lost some weight and prefers wet food now, but no weight gain after 2 months of eating plenty.

She's also started peeing on our bed so we know something is going on healthwise. No peeing or spraying anywhere else, so we keep the bedroom door closed when we're gone.

Vet visit next week but I have not seen this forced breathing while purring in my lifetime of owning cats.
