We have a packed couple of weeks ahead of us!

I'm working straight until Friday night, then Saturday I have a folk festival here to go to that my friend's brother is playing at. I had planned on showing that day but it would mean that I wouldn't have been back in time for the concert and I haven't seen her in over a year so I don't mind missing a day of shows to see her

On Sunday we're back to showing again. We had a few friends over last night and as a result the dogs ended up getting quite a few unauthorized "treats" which resulted in a very messy day for me (and them, lol). Because of that, I decided to fast them for today to let their stomachs settle, but poor Fynn, he looks so skinny right now because of it. I'm sure he'll be back in tip top shape before Sunday and if he isn't or isn't feeling up to showing then I'll pull him. My sister is coming down from northern Quebec for just over a week, so she's going to come to the show and watch. She feels bad that she doesn't get to go to things like this because she lives so far away, so she always loves coming to them when she's done. A huge difference from my other sister that lives in town and can't be bothered coming to anything like this.

The club that we show in is very laid back and Fynn is the only dachshund that's currently showing with them. That means that he will always get into group where he competes with the rest of the hounds, then goes onto to best in show. I'm thinking about telling her to bring something slightly dressier to wear and throwing her in the ring with him for one of his classes - since there is no risk of him not making group so she wouldn't feel bad if she didn't do well, lol. I think she might enjoy it and it beats just sitting around and watching everything. So on Sunday we will be showing in two shows (Saturday has three shows) - we're hoping to bring back LOTS of ribbons. Last show the judges really liked him and seriously considered him for BIS twice. He's looking a lot nicer now, although the bath I had to give him today made his coat lay funny. If I can't get that calmed down in the next few days he's going to be the weirdest looking dog there, lol. I'm starting his grooming tomorrow afternoon - I have to do his feet about 5 days before a show incase I cut them too short, it gives the hair a chance to even out, and I have to take a little off his ears and neck.

Here he is after our last show in May, he had a blast! Wish us luck this weekend!

I groomed the dogs today in preparation for the show.

The first two are of Fynn. He's by no means the perfect dachshund, he's short in ribbing, off on a few angles but otherwise a good boy and does well at shows. He's more of the working type than the show type, which is what we prefer (and is healthier). I didn't clean off the table before I took the pictures, so sorry that it's a little furry, lol. They also got into something the other night when we had a party, I suspect that people were feeding them deep fried foods. As a result they weren't feeling so hot the next day and ended up having to have 3 baths, so Fynn's coat is a little dry and wonky looking. Unfortunately, I think that's how it's going to be for the show too... oh well, he's feeling better and that's the most important part.

And here's Sadie. She's my spayed pet girl, but you can see how much different she looks than Fynn. Her rear is way too high, even when her feet are in the correct position (they should be further back in the photo). I also don't trim the top of her feet, that's what Fynn's look like before trimming too.

And Leiki, she loves getting on the table. We take the noose off when we're not using it because they all love jumping up there and just hanging out. I don't want anyone to accidentally choke themselves.

Thanks!

We showed Fynn today (Sadie tagged along, but I didn't have her entered in the altered class). It was horribly hot and very uncomfortable, which definitely hindered us in the ring. My poor boy tried so hard to strut his stuff but by the end of the class he was basically dragging himself along. All of the shorthair dogs there had the advantage of being able to jump in the doggy pool right after their classes, but I can't do that with Fynn because he's longhaired. Right after Best in Show I picked him up, walked right over to the pool and dunked him in. He sat in there for a good 5 minutes just cooling off. The judge was laughing at me, lol - the shows are incredibly laid back.

Fynn did great though despite the heat - in both shows today he took first in his class, winner's dog, best of breed and best in group. We seem to always get those 4, we just need to get a best in show or at least reserve best in show, lol.

I'm really excited for August's show weekend, it's going to be the first weekend that we're there for the whole thing. We're going to try camping there (the shows are held at a campground). The third show on Saturday has a theme - Hawaii, so we're all going to go into the ring in grass skirts and coconut shell bras, lol... not sure what the guys are going to wear, or what the judge is going to think!
