I worked Friday night, then drove directly to a cat show after I got home Saturday morning. By the time I got home from the show on Saturday evening I was totally exhausted. So I dumped some food and water in the kitties' dishes, scooped litter boxes, checked my email, and fell into bed. When I got up Sunday morning I thought I should make sure all my cats were in one piece, considering that I'd just introduced a new foster cat two days earlier. Counted noses and couldn't find Merlin. I searched the whole house and didn't see him on any of his favorite perches or under the bed. I finally decided to check the carriers that were still scattered around the living room. Lifted the end of the 4th carrier and thought, "Yep, there's a cat in here." Then I looked down and realized I had never opened the door!
Poor Merlin had been trapped in that carrier for 14 hours!

He's a very forgiving cat. All he wanted when he came out was lots of cuddles.

Poor Merlin!

I REALLY had to apologize to poor Pria yesterday.
I stepped on her tail and she screeched. She got over it quickly but I still felt horrible, poor thing.

Luckily kitties don't tend to hold grudges for too long.

Poor Merlin!

I accidentally locked Holland in a closet overnight once. But really, I think I apologize to her for something every single day... When I have to leave her alone all day to go to work, when I have to shift her on my lap because my leg fell asleep, when I'm late feeding her, when I don't let her lay down on my laptop, when I'm not in the mood to play at 3:00 in the morning... there's always something.

Oh wow, 14 hrs! Eek! I'd say that definitely earns some treats and extra extra play time and maybe a new toy.

But yeah, I have to apologize all the time as I either squish em or bonk em briefly in bed, open a door on em, or bump with my leg since they insist on walking underneath me. Luckily they are pretty forgiving.

OH dear, well, Merlin survived and must be the MOST patient kitty in the world
. I locked Perla in the office today. Presley dug a HUGE whole in the carpet by the door trying to free his sister
. I apologized up and down to her. I am forever saying sorry to my kids. I even almost broke my ankle after stepping on Perkins going down the stairs. Did I get upset with him being in the way!!! OH NO, I was so sorry I almost stepped on him, forget about my poor ankle

Oh Wow! He didn't even meow!!! The poor boy must have had to go potty so badly.

Glad he forgave you!

I'm always apologizing to my cats for something. It's the nature of being owned by a cat!

Oh poor Merlin! I can just IMAGINE how awful you felt!
What a sweetie for forgiving you!

I'm constantly apologizing to Billy - I'm forever stepping on his tail! Of course - he's forever under foot!

We used to close Flowerbelle in the closet or bathroom all the time. Now we use a door stop to make sure the bathroom door doesn't close (unless intentionally), and I've learned to check the closets before I close the door.

awww poor little guy! Yup treats, cuddles and new toys should do it!

I do end up apologizing to Kismet a lot... random things such as bopping him with my cane or a door - etc. Or if I scare him for real. (( I say for real because it's great joy to him when we scare eachother LOL so if it's scared scared I feel bad but if its scared and he flops over in shock and angry then it's fun and games. I swear we are sane!))

It has been so hot here recently that we don't leave the door open much. They look at me like "mom!!!!! open the door so we can look out"

And just tonight, we got home late from our Bible study class and I thought DH would want to go to bed right away. Rusty was just staring at me as if to say, "Open the door NOW!" I was telling "Sorry but we are going to bed now." When DH decided to stay up a bit longer, we opened up. At least they will have about 30 minutes to look out the screen door.

Constantly! It wasn't too long ago that I accidentally shut Mollipop up in the computer room and went to work. No food, no water, no toys, no litterbox. When DH got home from work that day, Molli texted me to tell me that she was most unhappy. And I spent the rest of the night groveling.

Right now I seem to be apologizing b/c we can't have the windows open when the AC is running. The cats love open windows and they are not amused. They jump up at the window, then turn around and look at me, waiting for me to open windows. And I can't.

I think there's a feline rule or something that humans must spend half their time apologizing for some perceived slight.

If I had a nickle for every time I apologized to one of the furkids, I think I'd be rich by now.

I can no longer open my windows, cuz the strays like to "sniff" my furkids thru the screen, and I have to be extremely cautious about that happening with my FIP cats. I'm deathly afraid of them picking up something from one of the strays that they won't be able to fight off.

I get the "look" all the time from my kits cuz they want to sit in the windows and I just can't take that chance: it makes me feel sooooo guilty.
But as much as I like getting fresh air into the house, I just can't risk allowing them to get sick....

Merlin is doing just fine. He never made a sound, even when I walked past the carrier several times looking for him. He didn't pee in the carrier and I figured he'd make a beeline for the litter box, but no, all he wanted was extra loving.

So I get through apologizing to one cat and the next night I managed to shut Miss Patchwillow in the office overnight.
I did look before I closed the door, but she was hiding somewhere. Once again no food, no water, no litter box, but at least she had more room than Merlin. She waited until she heard me moving around the next morning before she yelled to be let out.
She's better than Merlin at playing up the guilt trip. Every time I get near her now she yells for belly rubs.

This was shortly after Swanie and Cindy came to live with us. We initiated a protocol so they didn't get out, which was to come in through the garage and make sure the garage door was down before opening the door to the kitchen. So this night we came home, went in the house, and went looking for the kitties. Found Cindy pretty quick, but Swanie was no where to be seen. I was starting walking through all the room shaking a treat bag, which would normally have him running. Finally I said to DH, you don't think he got out do you? DH said couldn't have, we would have seen him (he's never been a small kitty). Nevertheless, I walked by the door to the garage and herad MEOW! MEOW! MEOW! I opened the door and poor little Swanie came running in. I was totally freaked because I was afraid he might have gotten into the stuff that drips out of the cars, so I was feeling him all over and saying I'm sorry Swanie! I'm so sorry! I didn't see you! He thought he was being petted and purred his furry little head off.

Since then, I have locked them in closets and rooms before, but usually not for very long. DH closed him in the closet down here once and only knew he was in there because Cindy was having a game of bat the cat under the door.

Must be nice to have a cat that doesn't hold grudges! I had to bath poor Sami, since she had dried diarrhea all over her back end and smelled like pee. She is STILL mad at me and that was hours ago.

I did apologize though. Several times, in fact.
