Annoying new ads?

When did TCS become infected with these annoying, bandwidth-gobbling, deafening sound-and-video advertisements?

There are comments and questions about sudden slowness and error on this site on the tech portion of the forum.

However, I've found one source of the problem. There are suddenly video advertisements, complete with unkillable sound, at the top of the page. I've seen them elsewhere, and quit frequenting those sites. Those ads eat bandwidth and are very annoying. Anyone else notice them?

I can tell you that, over the weekend, this site has been extremely slow to load. And half the time, the pages wouldn't load at all...I kept getting Page Cannot Be Displayed. And it's frustrating. I gave up many times.

On another board I frequent, it's log-in and now, if you mess up your log-in, not only do you have to type in a capcha, but in order to get the capcha, you have to watch a short ad and you get the capcha at the end! It's all getting out of hand.

At least google adsense isn't scanning everything you type and turning keywords into product links at various online stores, making it hard to tell what links someone MEANT to hyperlink, and which just send you to amazon.com and the like.

BTW, you guys hear that old shows that are being aired are being digitally altered for modern product placement? For example, in the last rerun of "How I Met Your Mother", products were placed in the background such as a magazine with a large ad for ZooKeeper. And people thought digital shenanigans with Star Wars were bad.

We're ad free on my forum, but it also takes plenty of donations to make that happen, so its all a balancing act.

There were some other problems with accessing the site. Even those who are paid members and can block the ads had problems.

We're hoping the problems have been fixed.

I have ad blocker on, and I still have issues here and there (yesterday afternoon and this morning especially)

I have Firefox and adblocker plus. I don't have a problem with ads here or on any of the sites that I frequent.

I do however find that it is sometimes slow to load pages here, but I've also been having some trouble at another site I frequent, but so have others, so I don't know what to think.

I have Firefox with the adblocker enabled. There are two or three sites I've come across these particular type ads. They are TV ads, put on the internet.

I am not getting any ads.

The site has been a bit slow now and then, but nothing huge here.

Sometimes the forums load nice for me, but most of the time when browsing the forums I will get slow loads or page cannot be displayed, it is frustrating, but I wasn't sure if it was just my computer or the site itself
