My mom will be 5 years breast cancer free in August, and I really want to throw a small party to celebrate this milestone.

It is going to be at my home, probably 20-25 people or so. I'm looking for ideas that go beyond the typical pink ribbon idea.

Any thoughts or ideas?

I am going to make the cake/cupcakes and provide the meat for the meal, going to ask everyone to bring a dish to share.

The first thing I would do is ask your Mom is she wants a party.

Cancer is a very personal experience and she may not want to "celebrate" this milestone in her life surrounded by a bunch of people.

If she does want a party, then what about an informal BBQ with the admission being a donation to the Cancer Society for Breast Cancer Research?

If your mom is interested in celebrating, an outdoor picnic type of party might be nice. Maybe people could bring simple things like potato salad, icecream and chips.
