I take my cat into the fenced-in backyard every day so he can run around. Recently, he started going under a tree we have and digging at the looser soil. He will dig a few inches into the ground, then walk away and explore/play some more. This behavior seems to have nothing to do with burying anything or getting ready to poop so I am at a loss. Does anyone have any ideas on what's going on in his head?
