Seriously and asking for dentures!

In the last 6 mths I have been having nothing but pain. They did the first step of a root canal yesterday on me, gotta go back on Oct 14th to do the actual procedure.

On another antibiotic for an abscessed wisdom tooth. I need all 4 wisdom teeth out but myy dentist won't touch them (I need to be put to sleep) and he said he found a dentist in Moncton (3 hrs away) that will do it...but I can't fo it until this Fall atleast!

Stupid teeth!!!!!!!

I know what you're going through sweetie.
I'm in pretty much the same situation with 2 problem teeth, one on each side of my mouth which makes eating not that easy. I know at least one is eventually going to need a root canal, possibly both. No fun at all...

Oh man, that sucks
! I hate going to the dentist
! I was lucky with my wisdom teeth, never had to get them pulled. I have had several root canals though, but they weren't painful, just dealing with the Novocaine sucked! The last tooth I had to get pulled I went into hyperventilation because even though I was numb, it took so long and I could hear everything
! The tooth broke so they had to push the gum line down to get it out......I said next time I have to be out! I have to get 2 implants and that is really freaking me out

As I move into month 4 of my problem Root Canal that was started in April, I feel you pain...literally. 5 rounds of antibiotics and I'm tentatively hopeful that this is the last run and next week when it's filled permanently, I can call it finished.

Right around the beginning of May when I realized I was developing the beginning of a pain killer addition to cope with the ongoing pain & infection, I actually asked how bad it would be to just pull the stupid thing.

Unfortunately I inherited the family problem teeth from my Dad. (he had a cracked tooth shatter while they were trying to pull it the same week my root canal started.) Lots of good coming for you. Dental issues really suck.

I totally understand what you are going through. I have very bad teeth. Several back teeth are broken down to the gum line and will need to be dug out.

The last dentist I went to stated all my teeth but two upper back teeth need to come out. I want to have all of them pulled and dentures put in but the cost is prohibiting me from doing this. It will cost over $2000 even with insurance. DH is in the same boat so we need at least $5000 or more.

I hate dentists. I have a phobia for them.

It sucks that there are so many of us that have dental problems

I too, have a major fear of the dentist but I must say my dentist is AMAZING and really understands and has alot of patience with me. I completly broke down and lost it when he told me I had to have my wisdom teeth pulled, I cried so hard and shook like a crackhead, it was awful and I was so humiliated.

They call him the Root Canal king so I'm hoping everything goes smoothly. We have awesome coverage but it's still costly, that's why I have to wait until Fall to have my wisdom teeth out, our insurance covers 80% so I will still need a few hundred. Blah!

I have had quite a bit of dental work done going into my 30's, lets hope my 40's are better (will be 41 in December!)

I am no fan of the dentist but I go every six months like clockwork. I have fillings checked and replaced as needed. I have a morbid fear of any MAJOR denistry. My wisdom teeth were a train wreck, the top two pretty much slid out no issue, the bottom were a complete nightmare. It took the surgeon 3 hours, plus quartering them....yeah nice

We have pretty good dental coverage and that makes it so much easier.

I hate the dentist, too, but go every six months. It's easier that way and keeps things under control when my teeth are cleaned regularly. I am thankful for dental insurance; I don't have it, but my DH does. When we go for our six-months cleanings, the insurance company pays all but about 4.00 of the cleaning bill. Thank goodness.

I had a horrid wisdom tooth extraction and the dentist ended up having to extract the wisdom tooth and the tooth next to it....the wisdom tooth decided to finally come in and it came down into the roots of the tooth next to it. Not pretty. (Valium is amazing for dental appts....take it from somebody who knows.)

I'm so frustrated I could cry.

So he did the first step of the root canal, he cleaned it out and put the medicine type stuff in it, supposed to leave it in there for 2 mths and I go back on Oct 14th.

Well I was just sitting here eating toast and all of a sudden it got crunchy....the whole side of that tooth fell off, I know I'm going to lose the tooth, I don't think there's anything he'll be able to do for it

I think dental issues are the absolute worst!I almost think I'd rather give birth that mess with my teeth!I had a tooth back last fall that broke after the filling came out,and I put it off...didn't have any pain so I thought, okay, leave it alone.Oh silly me!Sitting at work one morning and felt this "twinge" and it was close to the weekend so I broke into a sweat and called the dentist. They got me in that day....I was amazed....and he said it was the calm before the storm and he'd have to pull it.Mind you,I'm almost 60 and this was my first ever!He finally had to cut it in half to get it out...and 9 shots later,it came out.OMG!Never again!I will find someone to put me out first! It wasn't the pain, really, that freaked me out. It's like someone said...you can hear everything.Makes me nauseous just to think about it!

It used to be very common that people only 40 years old had no teeth, just dentures. True of both of Dottie's parents.

That was before fluoride in water and toothpaste, and tooth brushing being accepted by everyone.

I'm just amazed that, in the U.S., Medicare and Medicaid don't pay for two of the most health-affecting problems, dental care and optical care.

I agree that Medicare and Medicaid should also pay for dental care. Bad teeth and gum disease are both painful and can affect your general health. Basic needed dental care has gotten so expensive. At one time it was just cosmetic dental care that was expensive but that isn't true anymore.

I know what you mean.

I have a sensitive area in my mouth so I can't even chew on my left side. Many dentists have tried to find the reason and they say there is nothing they can do. So I am stuck always chewing on the right.
If I chew on the left or drink cold liquids, there is so much pain.

You said it, Mike. Like teeth aren't health-related, too? It's just so stupid that dental isn't covered.
I'm on Medicare now, and I need to go to the dentist cuz I have a bad tooth that needs tending to, but can't afford to get it taken care of - not that I have any desire to even go to the dentist. I'm deathly afraid of them, too.

I feel for ya, Brandy.
Tooth pain has got to be the worst.
I've been chewing on BC powders to kill the pain that my bad tooth's been causing. I don't know what else to do right now.
