Anyone into Game of Thrones?

I'm obsessed with the book, show, and soundtrack to Game of Thrones!!!!! I need a twelve-step program. I've been staying up late every night to read the books. So good! Fantasy usually isn't my thing, but I'm really into this.

Anyone else a fan?

I had never heard of it until it started on television. I do watch it. I can't say that I understand much of it though. Way too many characters and storylines. I find it all very confusing.

It is, a bit! Especially when I started the book (I'm following along with the TV episodes on HBO streaming. I'm one of those annoying have-to-read-the-book-first type people ), it was all seemingly random stories, vignettes almost. But they do work together and intertwine eventually. How much have you watched?

i love the series. i just hope he lives long enough to finish it. when the 1st book came out he said there was going to be 4 books in the series. when i talked to Martin at a signing he said it's probably going to be 7 books. when he turned in 'a feast for crows' to the publisher it was around 1700 pages. they asked him to cut it in half. and he did. and he was just going to do a few touch-ups and put the other part out. that took him 6 years.

anybody a Tad williams fan on here. he writes fantasy & sci-fi. i recommend the 'Memory, Sorrow & Thorn' trilogy and the Otherworld series and the Shadowmarch series. they're excellent.

I bought a TV so I wouldn't have to read anymore, but I LOVE the HBO show!

The story is fantastic, that much is obvious, but the execution of the show just blew me away. They have a fantastic cast, and I can't complain about a single choice they made for the characters. While acting is paramount, the amount of attention to detail in the scenery and everything is quite amazing.

Coworker of mine complained that there were too many gratuitous violence and love scenes in the show though... the audacity of the woman!

I don't want to give anything away, but the season finale... its too good. How am I supposed to wait for next season!

I have read the books, but now it has been so long since I have read them that I may have to reread them to remember what happened! I have been waiting for years for "A Dance with Dragons" to come out!

I don't have HBO, but really wanted to see the series!

I've watched the first season and liked it. Haven't read the books though.

We are 3 shows behind. DH is a huge fan and read the series. He is very impressed how true to the book it has been so far. Of course he knows everything that is and will happen. He has been pretty good at keeping it a secret.

For those that haven't seen the show btw, here are some of the big names in the cast (lots of big screen movie stars):
Michelle Fairley
Iain Glen
Lena "This is Spartaaaaaaa" Headey
Sean "You can't just walk into Mordor" Bean
Peter Dinklage
...and a bunch of younger actors who may be mostly unknowns, but only until now as they are quite good. The boy Bran isn't that great, but his sister Arya is excellent for example... little brat!

Here's a sweet trailer that doesn't have a million spoilers like others:

I watched the television series even before I read the books and I absolutely LOVED the show, so I decided to give the books a try too.  I'm only half way through A Game of Thrones, but I just love how well the book is written, it is just so descriptive and the characters are so well written.  The show is so closely based on the first book, I can actually replay the scenes in my head as I read, it's quite amazing.

I am so excited for season 2 of Game of Thrones, HBO recently released this teaser trailer and I can't wait for it to be back.  April 2012!

Apparently, for those who had trouble keeping up with season 1, season 2 is going to be a lot more complicated!  I am hoping to get the first and second book finished by the time season 2 starts!

Ooh!!! I asked for the first book for Christmas and got it! It's fantastic! I haven't seen the series, as I don't have HBO, but by the time I finish the book, the series should be on Netflix, so I'll rent it. I can see already that I'm going to be obsessed with these books. So good!

I had never heard of the series until the show on HBO. After watching the show it made me want to read the books. I had actually forgot about the books until you posted this. Thank you I have now written myself a note to pick up the books so I can read them before season 2 starts.

Love the series! Can't wait for season 2. I hope the production value continues...it's phenomenal.

I haven't watched it, nor read the books (I am also that kind that likes to read the books first, but the problem is that I read so very very slowly, that I have many movies that I want to see.....after I read the book, whenever that will be!)

The crew was here in Iceland for quite a while towards the end of the year, to tape for season 2, something that is going on on the other side of the wall (I am just saying what I heard in the media here....I don't know anything about that wall....), and after seeing what they were doing, I am really interesting to see this.

So I should maby start reading, or at least see season 1.

I don't know what wall either. There are lots of walls from what I could see in the show.

The only storyline that really interests me is the girl and the dragons.  So I'll concentrate my efforts in season 2 with trying to keep up with her storyline.

I'm almost finished with the first book (hopefully within the week), my biggest problem is that I am quite a slow reader and the books are all so long, it takes more forever to get through.

As for season 2, I really hope they continue to stay true to the books.  I find that a lot of shows that are based on book series start off similarly to the books, but then as the stories progress, the show kind of takes on a life of its own.  I just hope they are able to maintain the intergrity of the books.

I bought the (so far) 4 book series at Costco a month or so again. Am now half way thru book 2.  Can't wait for the HBO series to start up again.

In on of the interwievs with the cast, when they were over here to film, someone said they didn't want to give to much away, but some people who made it in the books, would not make it in the show and vice versa. I found that strange, to have the story so much different, that different people were surviving.

If the books are so long, I should maybe lay off the "need" to read the books first!  I never saw more than 3 Harry Potter films, because I haven't read more books, started book 4, but didn't get far as I stopped and lost the thread.

The only thing I  know about this wall, is that beyond the wall, (what they were taping here) it is very cold and snowy, as they were taping by the root of a glacier in the snowy nature.

Ah, ok. There is a wall in a snowy place where they defend against some kind of monster(s). That's as much as I know about it.  It seems kind of a pointless storyline given the number of stories and plots and characters they have in the show.
