Keiran's acting weird....

So, we brought in a new baby in the home. And after finding out she was MUCH younger than what we were told and switching her food all around, she is doing much better.

After some initial hissing and growling at the door, and batting paws underneath, we finally introduced the two a few days ago. Keiran is in love with her...I think.

He follows her all around the house, and when she mews (which is ALL THE TIME because she ALWAYS wants attention) Keiran will dash over and begin grooming her.

They eat from the same bowl without issue and there is no more hissing or growling.

The problem is that sometimes Keiran will randomly attack our new kitten. If she begins playing on her own, he runs over and begins biting her.

I don't understand why he is doing this when he loves on her 90% of the time!!

And what I also don't understand, is when I go over to tell him to knock it off, he will crouch down like I am about to hit him, and then roll on to his side and give me his belly.

I have NEVER EVER raised my hand to him, neither has my boyfriend. We tried Keiran to understand what "No!" means, so we've never had reason.

I don't understand what is going on! Why is he attacking our kitten? And Why is he acting abused?

Is Keiran neutered hun? If so it sounds to me like he is just trying to play with her. (If not, I would say it's time, lol.) My younger cats pounce on and attack each other AND the older cats all the time. She may be small but I bet she's mighty and unless there is hissing, growling or obvious aggression going on, I wouldn't worry too much.

As for him crouching down and rolling over, it sounds like he is just showing you submission, and showing you that he knows you're the boss.

All in all, it sounds like things are going great and that it's all normal behavior. No worries!

Yessum! He came to me neutered at 10 weeks

and it's good that he's just playing, but he plays a little TOO rough and she ends up yowling. Not hissing or growling, but more scared than anything else. I was just hoping he was not actively trying to hurt her.

And I'm also glad it's just submission. I love a weetle new kitten too, but Keiran is momma's baby, and I don't want himt o ever think I would hurt him.

It all sounds like perfectly normal behavior to me. Sounds like he's trying to get her to play and to work out the pecking order in your house. As long as no one's bleeding or anything like that, they'll be fine.
