Good morning!

I was cleaning out litter boxes this morning and thinking that there just has to be a better way to clean them. We're trying to be environmentally-friendly, so we take our reusable Trader Joe's bags to the grocery store, to Target and to PetSmart. As a result, we're not using plastic bags hardly at all anymore. And I don't know what to store used cat litter in when I scoop litter boxes. I use plastic bags and then throw the bags away. But we're really low on bags and plus I want to use something that's better for the environment. So my question this morning is:

What do you use when you scoop your litter boxes? Plastic bags? Store the used litter in a covered container til garbage day? How do you do this?

We use the plastic grocery bags, and throw them in the garbage which makes our garbage bags fairly heavy. A few different garbage men have been known to cuss us out.

I hear you! We go through about 60 pounds of litter a week, between cleaning all the boxes twice a day and then the weekly cleaning and disinfecting of all the boxes every Wednesday night. Garbage-weenies don't like us either!

Plastic grocery bags for small scoops, the black heavy duty trash bags for full litter changes.

You know I have a handful of reusable grocery bags and I always forget to use them. I stick them in the stroller while I shop but when it comes time to check out I forget to hand them over.

I clean the litter every day so it's never a huge amount so I use the pooper scooper doggie bags from the dollar store.

I use plastic bags & I put in place far, far from the home, of course out of house...about the garbage days, fortunately we have service 2 days per week...so we do not keep for long time the "radiactive" stuffs...

I use grocery store bags, tie them in a knot and keep them in an empty cat litter bucket with a tight fitting lid.
We take them out every time we take out our wastebaskets (every three days or so).

I use grocery store plastic bags too for litter. Well, the ones that don't have holes in them anyway. I usually use 1 bag for 2 days, then take it out to the trash bin.

I usually use reusable bags (including the one I made!), but LB is starting a plastic bag ban in grocery stores on Aug. 1 so I've been stocking up recently.. of course I live close to the city border and do some shopping in Lakewood anyway, so I guess I can still get my bags for trash/litter.

I scoop directly into the garbage can (with a regular kichen garbage bag), then take the bag out to the garage and put it in the big garbage can. But I have more scoopings to throw out than the average cat owner, I think!

I scoop into a black bag as to many cats to scoop into a grocery bag lol...

I also dump the boxes into black bags. About 3 times a year a bag will bust at the street while they are throwing it on truck. hefty bags with the 18%/23% stronger on box work very well.

Grocery bags...with one cat it's not an issue that needs a separate container with baking soda, etc, I just throw it away in the trash.
