Thanks for the info on Ziwipeak, BTW. I found a place we can purchase it here. Gary and I'll get over there - Lazlo could use some nutritionally dense food right now.

Really, REALLY awesome food Laurie! He might not like the texture though - you will see what I mean, it is really natural stuff, so you won't see the creamy texture you usually see on canned food. You notice that they actually put the real meat and organs in there - yummy for the kitties, kinda nasty for us. I have a little smoothie maker, so I add a bit of water and whip it into a cream - they go ga-ga.
Lamb is not popular - Venison and venison and fish are a huge success.
IMHO you can't get better food than Ziwi as far as canned goes...

By the way, Bugsy is going to the vet tomorrow.... He is doing really well, but I decided to take him earlier so if there is something wrong there is time to take care of it before I go out of town on the 28th. I am also considering shaving him duet to hairballs - we will see if I comeback with a chubby sphynx instead of a ragdoll tomorrow

Yeah, I can see why you'd want that peace of mind.

Oh NO! Not a chubby sphynx!! (Although he'll always be beautiful!)

Yeah, we'd have to mix it. Our kitties don't eat chunks of anything.
And they do eat the lamb & chicken... Holisitic food, I think it is, they usually don't like lamb either. But venison they love.
I'm supposed to feed him chicken livers. Obviously not supermarket stuff. But I am going to start there - just give him a little teeney piece to see if he'll eat it before we order and invest the money it in.

Sorry! Didn't mean to sidetrack the thread!

Continued for Bugsy!

The video is priceless!!

It just dawned on me that my friend's pure white cat also has a serious allergy to all chicken products. I'll have to pass along the info on Ziwi to her. I've not heard her talk about it. Is this another anomaly for white cats?!?!?

Like Laurie - caught this a bit late but am glad to hear that you seemed to have found a solution.

Keep eating Bugsy!!

Ziwi is probably going to be great for him then - the second ingredient is always liver - Venison for example: 1st is venison, second is venison liver, 4th is venison heart. It will do him some good

Like Laurie - caught this a bit late but am glad to hear that you seemed to have found a solution. hopefully....... I will get some appetite stimulant to leave here at the house though, and make sure Kelly's name is in the system there. I have never been away from them for 2 weeks and I am kind of freaking out

Keep eating Bugsy!!

It's official - Bugsy will be a naked boy today

We went to the vet and I decided to get him a lion cut
He is there right now the poor thing

Anyways, Doc said he is doing really well, no gas, no inflammation on his bowels that he can feel, and he did not lose weight either - could lose some, but not too fast...... slowwwwwwwwly.
He is 17.4lbs (can you imagine that on a Lion cut? that will be either sad or funny
)
He approved the food, and blood test results will be back on Monday - I will post pictures once he gets back

Oh, I forgot - the reason for the shave is hairballs - doc said it can be a huge problem (including with his diarrhea) and since he can't take hairball meds all the time, shaving helps a LOT. Bugsy overgrooms which is a problem.
He told me to give him only 1.5cc of vaseline once a week so he keeps absorbing his meds and probiotics, but at the same time has some maintenance on the hairball side of it

They are adorable with lion cuts!

I've told you about my friend's white fluffy cat with allergies. He also gets shaved each year. The first year was a lion cut. The last few years they leave a little mohawk along his back which looks very cool. His name is Mojo, so they call it the Mojo-hawk cut. I'll warn you that he gets angry for a couple of days after being shaved, but will admit that he is deaf and therefore change unsettles him quite a bit. He gets better about it each year, as I think he's finally figured out that he feels generally better after the shave. He has both food and skin allergies, so they are doing it for multiple reasons.

Yes, we will want to see pics!!

Here he is!

He was a little jumpy when he got home, understandably so, after spending all day at the vet, had blood taken out of his neck, then put through a grooming and all.... For an hour or so he would get startled very easily, but after that he appears to have a ton of energy and is doing great! I think he is enjoying not having all that fur - is playing and running more... It must feel better!

His skin is sooooo smooth! He looks a lot smaller than he was before too - amazing how much fur he had!
He does have a belly though.... His "pouch" is more of a carry-on luggage

It is so interesting to see your cats without fur... He is so cuuuute

Awww, he looks cute with his lion cut. You can see just how thick is fur is - I'll bet it's a relief to him in summer.

Ha! You made me laugh out loud with this comparison.

Bugsy looks good (actually, he's just plain beautiful, even without all his fur) and I'm so glad to hear he's doing well.

We have talked about doing that to Punkin, in the summertime, but we never have. He has soooooo many hairballs in the summer!

I know how it is.... I have been thinking about it for a while too.... But then after talking to his vet yesterday, I got to the conclusiot it was the best thing I could do for him. He said hairballs can really havoc their system, including causing diarrhea.... well... Last thing I want to do is worsen Bugsy's diarrhea! When I told him the size of the hairball he passed,he was concerned. Bugsy a few weeks ago vomited a hairball that was as big as a sausage - no kidding, it was scary big. I groom groom groom him, give him vaseline, and he still passes ropes of hairball.
If Bugsy is awake, he is grooming himself. I just can't keep up with him.
Because he has to absorb his probiotics and meds, I can't do the hairball treatments as much as he should have....
So, I think under his circumstances, even though I was crazy about his fluffyness.... This was the best solution.
I do think he is loving it! He is super alert, playing, and enjoying a lot of scritches from his momma - I just can't get my hands off of him!
The only negative is the cost - $85!!!!

Worth knowing he is no longer ingesting all that fur though!

You did the right thigs Carolina
My boy Fuzzy is my only longhaired kitty and I try brushing him but he hates it. But I know for sure I wouldn't be able to give him a cut because he is a very anxious kitty and he won't behave. he is a sweetie though

Carolina - I am super late reading up on this thread. I feel so badly for you in regards to your work travels. I have such a worry right now with having to leave even for a day or two with Pipsqueak's urinary issues. The stress and worry we go through for our furkids is tremendous when we have to leave them in the hands of the petsitter and they are having a finicky spell.

I am glad to hear he is eating better again. Must have been a bad bag and what a worry it causes us when that happens and it certainly does. I did not know Bugsy weigh over 17 pounds!!! He is a big, gorgeous boy and I can see why you love him so. The picture of the Bugsy in the lion cut is priceless. AND, the video of you spoon feeding him is just as special. I do the same thing with my cats if someone goes off feed. Hey, whatever it takes, on bended knees
. I know the complete and utter worry when you put that bowl of food down and they sniff and then look up at you as if to say "this again
, nope not interested"
. LOTS and LOTS of vibes for Bugsy to keep on eating

Great news! His vet called all happy, which immediately let me know he was telling me good news
"Hi Carolina, Dr. E. Here!" (Helps that's he is a total eye candy too LOL)! His blood work came back great! All liver enzymes, which were the reason for the test, were completely normal and so were his kidneys. The only very slightly elevations were: calcium was 2 points high- which he said it indicates a bit of inflammation on his bowels, but the 2 points is such a minimum elevation, that he said he could have the test done the next day and have normal results- not to worry at all. The other was tryglicerides- also 2 points: this he said is likely because he was not fasting, so disregard... Minimum variation while not fasting is not to worry about it either.... So..... He is all good ladies and gentleman!

I am so relieved!
He is here smuggling next to me... He is just too cute for words!
