My mom needs prayers......

My mother was in a terrible car accident yesterday afternoon. She was driving home from P.T. and apparently fell asleep at the wheel. She veered off the road, into a ditch, hit a tree and the front end of the car tipped down and the roof was resting on the tree. She has broken a vertibrae in her back and will need surgery. They live up in Northern WI, and I am going to head out there tonight or tomorrow morning. Her surgery might be tomorrow. She is in alot of pain. I had a short talk with her this morning and the nurse had started to rise her bed up a bit and mom cried out. It just made me bawl. I just am asking for friends here on TCS to send prayers to my mother. She is eighty years old and this will be a tough recovery.

The whole family is suppose to be gathering at the end of July up in Door County at my parents house for a family reunion and photo. The first thing my mom said in the emergency room yesterday (when I was talking to my dad) was that "we are NOT cancelling the family reunion, and we are going to get that family photo, no matter what"..... That's my mom. Thank you for any prayers and I will try to keep you posted.

Oh Lauren how scary!!!!! Prayers and vibes on the way. I have to agree with Fran - it sounds like something like this won't slow her down much. Maybe for a little while.

But lots of prayers and vibes on the way that that IS the case, and for a quick recovery (and a wonderful family reunion!)!

Safe travels to you.

Thank you SO much everyone. My mom also has a bruised heart from the impact. She is pretty banged up. . Mom and dad had a talk with the neurosurgeons this afternoon. She will not be having surgery quite yet. And this is good news . They fitted her with a back brace. My spine just curled when dad told me this because of her tremendous pain in any movement. I hope they had her pumped up with pain meds for the fitting. I am driving up there tomorrow morning now instead of tonight. Will stay with my dad for a day or so and visit mom a few time too. Your prayers are much appreciated

Thank you everyone. Yesterday was the first day since I joined TCS last December that I didn't log in . Drove up to Green Bay to see mom. I held back the tears when I saw her laying there. She has two gashes on her forehead, bruised fingers from being upside down in car and hanging on, very badly bruised arms. I found out she did cross over into head on traffic and in the ditch on that side and hit the tree the car flipped up. it is a MIRACLE from God that she is alive and didn't kill anyone else on the road either. She was cushioned by her ANGELS.

She can barely move. I helped her eat her liquid lunch and she had a tear. I have never felt such compassion and empathy towards her in my whole life. We have had a difficult relationship. I just wanted to cradle her and told her all will be well. My mother is a very strong willed woman, with much determination. She will pull through.

Then, on the way home to my parents house in door county from the hospital, Larry was driving and we were following my dad home. It is an hour drive home from the hospital. Half way home, a deer ran into the side of my dads car. The deer died instantly. My dads car has a huge dent in the side and he has to make another claim to the insurance. could have been another terrible accident for my dad. I am thinking my parents shouldn't drive at all anymore...

Thanks for continued prayers. Will log on again at the hospital to give me something to do. We have our two old dogs with us. That is a whole other thread........
