Microchipping

Hi all.

I am getting Monet microchipped on the 13th. I need that peace of mind, just in case! He's not a door dasher, but I am concerned if maintenance should come in my apartment and leave the door open... brr. He hates to wear collars too.

Anyway, I am taking him to a shelter clinic who charges $35 and on the file system forever. (cheapest I can find, Vet is over $100, including staying on the system!).

I am not sure how the process of microchipping works, both the procedure, and keeping up with the file on the system.. first time ever going for this. Is there anything I need to know?

It's pretty much like giving vaccinations. I had my cat in my arms while the vet inserted it with a needle. My cat wasn't phased at all.

Just fill out the paperwork for the cat's info and if any information changes you give them a call.

Most cats don't even seem to notice the "shot".

thanks you two! I was concerned about any pain he might feel. I feel better now

Turtle was chipped before she left the shelter. All the info was under my friend's name so I had to have it changed when she came to me. It was just a phone call. Very hassle-free.

Depending on which chip you're getting, you can even enroll online or over the phone. The fee you pay the vet doesn't include the enrollment fee for the program, which may be why you saw the difference in price. The higher might include the enrollment fee as well as the microchip cost.

Kinda doesn't make sense.. Vet charges nearly $100 bucks (some $70) for the everything. But the shelter charges $35 for everything. Big difference in price! Shelter says no annual fee either

I don't pay any fees.

Holland was already chipped when I adopted her from the shelter, so it was built into the adoption fee. I don't pay annual fees, I just have to call to update my info if it changes.

When I adopted my dog Tulip from the shelter she was chipped. How it works with her is that if she ever gets out and then found, they would call the animal shelter who then contacts me. That way she will ALWAYS be returned to the shelter she came from no matter what. I also do not pay any fees for this service.

I wont chip my nakeds.

You don't HAVE to pay an annual fee after the initial enrollment. I had to pay to get Tumbles enrolled, but after this year, I won't pay the fee again. The fee just gives you a few extras that we really don't need. Your info is still on file whether you pay the annual fee or not.

I was hoping to bring Picasso in with Monet on Weds for microchipping. the vet said its a separate appointment. Kinda makes no sense.. kill two birds with one stone, you know?

I am hoping Picasso will accept her collar and won't bother taking it off, since she's young. If she refuses it, then I'll take her to be chipped too
