Many of our members have pets. Some prefer dogs, some prefer cats. Then there are those that like snakes, iguanas, turtles, birds, and fish, etc. Proper care varies according to the pet, but may include, but not limited to... buying the pet, obtaining the correct food, feeding daily, providing an environment, visits to the Vet, licensing, providing sleeping areas, allowing for bathroom breaks and a place to perform that function, certain toys, treats, cleaning up after, grooming, a lifetime of expense, and dealing with the anxiety of their death.

The perfect pet may very well be a stuffed animal.

Consider the advantages.

There is only an initial expense (unless it's a gift).

You have a pick of a variety of breeds.

You need not qualify as a fitting owner (you don't need to know squat).

They are sold everywhere.

They aren't afraid of loud music, thunder or lightning.

They will always act like they love you.

They won't wake you in the middle of the night.

You can get the size you want. If you decide to go larger or smaller, just throw it away (or give it away and buy another).

You don't have to feed it.

It doesn't throw up or poop on the floor.

If it gets dirty, throw in the washer.

No trips to the Vet.

No licenses.

You can take it anywhere.

You can discipline it any way you want, and only get talked about.

You don't have to walk it.

It will never bite or scratch you (on their own) but you can make them do that.

It always have the same expression (unless you've re-arranged its face).

They suffer no pain, like if you ripped its arm out (by accident of course).

You can carry it any way you want.

No worries about fleas or ticks (but you may have to dust it occasionally).

They live forever (or until they fall apart), and even then you can keep them around.

They need no toys to play with.

They are very quiet (depending on your pet).

They are indifferent to guests.

They need no training, but you can still go through the steps to keep you busy.

You can have your "dream" pet, like a lion, tiger, or even a camel if you wish.

You can finally join a "stuffed animal club".

All very true. BUT they can't love you back. As aggravating as it can be, as expensive as it may be, as painful as it may be to watch them get sick and die, I have never regretted one moment loving my cats and giving them as good care as I can provide. It is all worth it when I remember the good things and how much happiness they brought to me.

I know some people who have live pets who would probably be better off in the "stuffed animal club"...

They can't love back and provide love to you. Personally if I didn't have pets that lived with me it would be lonely. Late at night just watching t.v. with my dogs if I didn't have them it would be lonely sometimes.

I do agree with you, but this was intended to be humorous. Life doesn't always have to be matter of fact, and be taken so seriously. But, in light of all this, I can remember having a cat or two in the past that could care less about me until it was time for food.

You don't need to explain the advantages of stuff animals to me...

The best part is, that is only some of them. I've gotten at least a dozen since then. Each one has a name and a story of where they came from too.

Oh yeah, well I have two stuffed animals that DO love me back.

It just so happens they are stuffed with approximately three ounces of Buffalo Seafood Delight right now.

When my folks and I combined our households, I brought two cats and they brought four. But in addition to those six kitties, my 86-year-old mom has also adopted a beagle, a ferret, a Siamese kitten, two sheep, a lamb, and a golden retriever wearing satin bunny ears. And on the dashboard of our car, Mom keeps a tiny beagle puppy... and...

Well, he needed a companion. So I added a tiny black Portuguese water spaniel like President Obama's dog, Bo. Yes, we drive around with two ittybitty stuffed dogs looking out our windshield. What can I say? We're wacky old ladies...

My brother and SIL have a cat and a beagle. My SIL loves beagles. Loves them. For Christmas a few years ago she put "a beagle named Franklin" on her wish list. Another SIL drew her name that year and got her a stuffed beagle and put him in a pound puppy house with the name FRANKLIN spelled out in sticker letters on it.

I guess maybe I am a bit serious. But CatCondos answered much like I did.
