Coal was about two or three weeks old when a security guard for an apartment complex found him. He was dehydrated and nearing death. He was crying out for help, and that's how he was found. This man didn't know what to do. Should he call the SPCA or should he call his wife? Being the animal lovers that they are, he called his wife. She rushed over to the apartment complex and began searching for my kittens. She heard another kitten crying, and followed the sound. She found another kitten... a little girl.

They decided to take these two little kitties home and nurse them back to health. They were in really bad shape.

The security guard heard one of the tenants threatening to poison the mama kitty. They searched and searched for the mama kitty before bringing the babies home. No where to be found.

The next day, he checked the cameras to see if he could spot anything happening to the mama kitty. The only thing he saw was mama crawling underneath a dumpster. He went to the dumpster and looked under it, and there she laid... dead. He pulled her out and checked her for any blood or wounds... and found nothing! Hence, she was more than likely poisoned like the man had threatened. There is no way to prove this, so it is really just speculation... but it smells funny to me!

The foster parents posted pictures on facebook and one of their friends decided she wanted one of the kitties. This new adopted parent just happened to be a friend of mine. She posted the same picture with a caption that "one of these kitties is mine!" I was so happy for her, but still a bit jealous.

You see, my goals in life were to start my career, buy a house, get married and have a family. I want 2-4 children! I even have some names picked out!
There's just one problem.

I recently found out that I cannot have children of my own. I am infertile.
This was really hard for me to accept. I want children so badly, and I can't? Says who? Why not? Ugh! Frustrating!!!! I went to a new obgyn, and found out that it is not completely out of the question. I have to undergo treatment and start a new life style... but until I get this health issue under control, no kids for me.... and nothing is guaranteed still. I still may not have children. This is better news. I'd rather have a slight chance than no chance at all, ya know?

Anyways, I have a friend with the same problem as me, and she suggested getting a pet before falling into a depression like she did. "You can't mother and nurture a baby, but you can mother and nurture a fur baby!" she told.

"You're right! Now I need to convince the boyfriend to let me bring an animal into the house!"

For a few weeks he said "NO!" He saw the picture of the kittens... had a long talk with me about responsibility and blah blah blah... and then he heard these babies story. "They have no mama, and I can't have no babies! We belong together!"

He looked me in the eyes for a moment, and I guess he could see how much this meant to me. "*sigh* okay! But I get to name it!"

We got the little boy kitty, and WE
decided to name him Coal. He is all black with some white high light type hairs on his front legs and chest. He is black like charcoal... and his sister (who went to our friend) is named Asher, or Ash for short. They are Coal and Ash.
Ash looks just like Coal but her belly isn't as dark as Coal's. That's the only way we could tell them apart when we picked them up. Still couldn't really tell if they were male or females. The foster parents just made an educated guess, having raised and rescued other kitties before. They guessed right, too. We took Coal to the vet this weekend (he was very sick, but is all better now) and the vet confirmed he is indeed a little boy!

We have had the fur babies now for about two weeks. Ever since finding these two and their mom, the security guard has been looking for any others... he found another about a week or so ago... but it had passed away.
So he picked it up, wrapped it, and buried it.
Thank God we got to save Coal and Ashie!

I have a tear in my eye over what happenned to that mama cat. And it really burns me up
to hear of such animal cruelty. I get such a rage inside of me over stuff like that, I just can't help it. What a terrible death she suffered
. I am glad that Coal and Ashie were saved and that is really cool that Ashie is with a friend so you can talk and compare notes about the little ones. You could even start play groups. If you start that now, Coal and Asher will become forever friend
.

I am sorry about you not being able to bear children
. To me, having a kitten or cat is as close to the real thing as you can get. Cats truly love being nurtured and cared for, even if some have the personalities that appear otherwise, they REALLY desire that kind of care. They also love schedules and expect (demand
) that you adhere to those on a daily basis.
. Thanks for sharing that story and enjoy your little guy today

It broke my heart when I heard the story too! They were so young when she died, and to be so malicious to a helpless animal is beyond me! I'm just thankful that they didn't get the kittens, too... or that if they nursed from her after she ingested the poison... it didn't affect the milk... or at least not enough to affect them. They both seem pretty normal.

Ash's mom and I have discussed kitty play dates. They went through a lot together at such a young age. They were all each other had to learn from. They didn't have mama to teach them how to be a cat... so they taught each other.

They have progressed well, and my Coal is quite the little hunter! That's another story to tell, though! Hahaha!

As for the not bearing children.... it's not completely out of the question yet! There is still a chance that this treatment will work, and I will one day have children of my own... non fur babies, that is! I just hope little Coal will adapt to his new brothers/sister if that day ever comes.

Good for you helping these kitties! Did anyone report the poisoner to Animal Cruelty authorities? I would have - at least to let him know he didn't get away with it. (I personally think he won't because Karma's a b*t*h).

Anyway, I've found that having kitties really prepares you for children. Especially teenagers - one minute they love you, the next they ignore you.

Good luck in your quest to be a mamma - to kitties or kids.

Ondine, the guy who worked for the complex thought about reporting it to the proper authorities, but he didn't have any solid proof. Everything he had was just speculation. The guy saying that he'd like to poison the cat doesn't mean he would actually do it. How many times have we told people we love that "I'm gonna kill you!" ya know? The security video that he did have only showed the cat crawling under the dumpster... no foul play.

There isn't really enough evidence to do anything with... we don't know for sure that she was poisoned, but deep down inside, we are pretty sure that's what happened. When she was found, there were no wounds, no blood... nothing.... just a dead mama kitty. The man could have easily blamed it on the heat and say she might have dehydrated or had a heat stroke or something. You see, we are in New Orleans, LA where the temperature (including the humidity) can get up to well over 100 degrees! One morning it was up to 115 by nine. We will never really know the truth. But like you said, karma is a b*t*h! He will reap what he sows.
