Lucas food trial

Hello everyone:

My dear Lucas is doing so much better with his new food (grain free Blue Wilderness duck formula) and his 10mg of prednisolone daily. The thing is I need to know if the food is what is helping him and I will have to give him a food with grains to see if he has a reaction.

I'm soo scared to do this, but I need to know, i can't help him if I don't know if he is allergic to food or not.

I was just thinking, how much food should I give him to see if there is a reaction? One time? I'm too scared to give him a lot of that food.

PLease help

Tammy, honestly, if he's doing well on the Blue Wilderness Duck, I wouldn't mess with it, especially if you're supposed to taper him down on the pred. I'd stick with altering one thing at a time - and if you taper him down, you'll know pretty quickly if it's been the pred that's helping.

And unless the symptoms of a food allergy are vomiting or diarrhea, just one or two meals might not indicate anything at all. My understanding is that it can take six weeks when you switch foods to figure out whether an ingredient was causing the allergy or not.

Thanks Laurie, I talked to the vet and we areed to keep him on 10mg of pred for now. That is why I wanted to do the test with the food. I just gave it to him once. I guess I won't give him anymore. I just wanted to know if he is really allergic to the grains on the food. But I guess it isn't worth it, I don't want hom getting sick.
