I'm several cats over my limit an while I do regret it - one or two over my limit wouldn't have been so bad. I think 7 is a good number....I'm 6 cats over that.

Hi guys!

She has a terrible ear mite problem. They cleaned her ears out well and put drops in each ear....we are to continue the drops once a week for four weeks. I wondered about her ears because she was wobbly on her feet and it looked like it might be a balance problem. It was. (Her ears looked clean to me, but way down deep inside, they were bad. And I feel bad about that, but we really got her into the vet as soon as we could.) The dr is concerned about her right ear as it looks like it may be perforated from the mites and she may be deaf in that ear. (She can definitely hear, but he's just not sure about that ear.) He said it would take about 4 days before the ear drops kick in and we should notice a change in her walking and in the way she ***** her head. Meanwhile, even though we've kept her in the computer room, we're using the drops in the rest of the cats' ears, too, just to be safe.

Tabby weighs 1.8 pounds and she's around 6 weeks old, the dr thinks. She's very thin, but we're trying to fatten her up a bit. We're not even talking about her baby vaccines until we can get some weight on her and get the mites cleared up.

The good news is that she tested negative for heartworms, feline leuk, all that stuff!
I forgot to take a stool sample in, so they wormed her...they probably would have anyway, just to be on the safe side.

So, $150 later? She is officially our seventh baby!
(Our DS and DDIL were discussing the possibility of taking her. But I called last night and said that we had decided that she needs to be with us. He said he kinda figured that all along.
)

We're keeping her in the computer room for another week or so, then we'll let her out for supervised time with the other furkids. But I think I'll keep her in the computer room while we're at work for a good month or so, just to make sure she's OK. She can be out at night and whenever we're home; that way we can keep Tabs on Tabby.
But I think that, for her own good, it's best to keep her in the computer room when we're not at home. At least for awhile. We did that with Mollipop, too, and it worked out well.

Thanks for asking about her!

What wonderful news! I'm so happy to hear you are keeping the little thing. We kept Mika separated from Bijou for a month and only let them together when we were home. Partly because Bijou is so much larger than Mika so we worried. It was a good move on our part as they became very close.

Glad to hear you're keeping her!
Is that a coincidence that most of your cats are blue or do you have a secret crush going on there?

I think it's because most of them are related! They're family members!

Oh good, her vet appt. went fairly well, other than the ear mites, which are easily treated!!! Congratulations, again, on your new baby! I think Mollipop will just love having her around and I bet they will become fast friends

We made a pact after rescuing Spencer that he would be the last furkid we took in, as we already had 4: then pregnant Salem came along, and well, as they say, the rest is history. Of course, even after Salem had her babies and we SWORE to each other that THAT was definitely gonna be the end of us taking in anymore rescues......well, I think y'all know what happened next. We simply don't have much control when it comes to some things: we don't make the choices - the cats do!
I personally don't regret taking in all my kits - not for one second. Sometimes it all gets to be a bit too much, but I wouldn't change any of it for anything.

Bless your sweet heart for taking Tabby in, Pam.
She's absolutely adorable!!
I think she came into your life for a reason.

As far as your neighbors are concerned....
While I can certainly understand her fears, I don't understand how feeding a poor, neglected, defenseless kitten can be much more of a burden than tending to all those other creatures. How difficult can it be to place some kitty food out in the yard for Tabby? It's not like she has to pet her, for goodness sake!
I just don't get some people...

ETA: I posted this before reading about Tabby's vet visit. I'm so glad to hear that she got a clean bill of health - minus the ear mites, of course. I'll be praying that she doesn't end up being deaf in one ear!

I had to take Tabitha back to the vet last night. She started walking in circles and falling over. Scared me to death and I was a mess (I had posted about it in the Health section). Anyway, it's from the mites. The dr cleaned out her ears again and when I got her home, we put more Otomite Plus drops in her ears.

She's up to 2.2 pounds, so that's a 6-oz. gain since Tuesday night!
Her dr told me that he really thinks she's going to be OK...we just have to get rid of those darn mites and that could take as long as a month. I was so relieved I started to cry in the middle of the exam room. I was so darn scared yesterday. He gave me a big hug and told me it was going to be OK, that she's eating and bathing and she's trying to be active. Those are all good things. (And he didn't charge me for the vet visit.)

And then later on last night? She started to play! Really play! We have a "ferret" type toy on a rope and DH started playing with it in Tabby's room, while I was cleaning our her litter box. And Tabby started running and jumping after the toy and she actually rolled over with it and started bunny-kicking it. Yes, she stumbled a lot and a couple times, she actually fell over, but she really did well.

This morning when I brought her breakfast back, she was screaming to be left out of the cage. She ate everything on her plate....we've switched her over to Blue Buffalo kitten food..... and then climbed on my lap to wash. She played with my fingers and then, when I had to crawl into the cage to clean her litter box out, she started playing with my toes. She's still having some balance issues, but she is much, much better.

Still not sure about the deafness. Sometimes she acts like she hears us, but sometimes she's oblivious to noise. Then again, kittens can be like that.

I'm so glad she's doing well! Well, besides the earmites, but that's an easy fix at least, even if it does take a whole month. She sounds like she's comfortable with you already, if she's playing and eating and all that good stuff.
